Hello everybody,

I am working with a customer that wants to slowly migrate from a Meridian 61 to IP Office and I am trying to figure out what is the best way to do it. I had this crazy idea to configure the system with a couple of PRI universal boards and use one to "connect" directly to the Meridian's E1 allowing me to use it to re-route the extensions that are not in the IP office back to the Meridian. My idea is to send the call/extension through the E1 back to the Meridian with the caller ID as the extension or menu option, then picking it up on the Meridian and mapping the DID to the extension, hunt group or automated attendant. Can this be done or am I dreaming?
A Nortel guy assured me that they can do it with the Meridian where they can re-route an extension trough the E1, which may force me to put the IP Office on the back end until the Migration is complete. Is it possible to connect two E1 ports together with some sort of a cross over cable? I have two old system with Universal PRIs here at the office and I will try but before I waste time I wanted to know if somebody out there has done it.

Any recommendation or ideas on how to do this better will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Well they are never that easy, no. All of them require work and you can only do so much offsite. The other vendor could not have accomplished what the client demanded so why should you? I know all about what you have to do to get a sale and how tough the competition really is. But really, it comes down who has to warranty the install and who is responsible for making it work. Never, ever let customers dictate these things. Just my advice. What you are trying to do will only make the customer think he bought a pile of junk when the complexity balloons out of conrol. Really, phones are not so different from manufacturer to manufactirer. Keep their expectations modest and the over deliver on theinstall. They will be surprised and pleased at the same time. Telling a customer no is the hardest part of this job.

Were you able to get a Tie line between the IPO and the Nortel ?
if so you could have the Nortel PBX do a CDP or a vacant number route to your tie line.

Example
any call that comes in or that is made internal to ext.2352 within the Nortel.
2 or 23 or 235 or 2352 can be a CDP to your tie

It's only dialtone!!!

vz, I only have to worry about the IP Office...somebody else is going to worry about the Nortel although I wish I could have the link to the Nortel learning section at avayaU, sometime ago somebody posted that as an Avaya BP we had access to Nortel training but I have not been able to find it.

Yes .. I'm just saying
have the Nortel PBX front the calls then push whatever ext to the IPO via your crossover T1.

If they setup the first cdp and it works the commands would be simple for you to do in the future every time you add more phones to the IPO.

It's only dialtone!!!
