Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me how I could determine exactly what power units are installed in a Meridian cabinet without looking?!

e.g. What overlay / cmds can I issue to detail all the power units.

Cheers,

Paul

I know of no way to query those - they are "dumb" cards.

If the cards themselves cannot be queried, is there a way of surmising that they are there via a roundabout method?

Cheers,

Paul

If you know the type of system and what shelf the PSU is in, one could take some good guesses.

If the system was programmed correctly, then the power units would have been defined in LD 12. All you have to do is go to LD 20 and REQ: prt TYPE: pwr then press enter until it list your power tns. NOTE: If they did not build them in LD 12 (which is basically just a label because they work if you connect them and don't build them) then you are kinda screwed.

Technology....is a strange thing. It brings you gifts with one hand and stabs you in the back with the other.

I believe the poster is asking about PE/CE power supplies (the cards in the left-most slot of every shelf).

@nortelfonguy: Tried that... as per your suspicions, nothing there (

Here's another problem I have:-

If you have PRI cards <V10, they don't return their part number via LD 117 or IDC. How can you determine if a card is 1 x Dual PRI or 2 x Single PRI?

@phonz1 - Yes.... but let's say for arguments sake that the system is in Outer Mongolia, and I'm in London on the end of a modem... Is there a reliable way I could tell the difference without anyone actually 'looking' at it?

That makes it easy :) The possible power supplies are "all those ever made for that system"

I think the key is that some documentation (read as a bayface layout of non-discoverable but replaceable cards) is required in this situation.

I was getting at, is this an 11 or larger? WIthout that info, someone is going to have to physically look at the cards

go to LD 117 and type--inv generate card
you will see--Card inventory generation started successfully
wait for --Inventory card generation complete
then you type--inv prt cards
this will give you a list of all your cards including NT5D12

Technology....is a strange thing. It brings you gifts with one hand and stabs you in the back with the other.

@Nortelfonguy:

LD 117 is probably the least reliable way of discovering cards I've found so far!

Typical problems:-

PRI cards <V10 show as 'Unavailable'
MISP cards not shown at all
Unprogrammed cards not shown at all (but then show when you IDC the loop
PRI2's (sometimes) don't show, but are visible in LD74
