If I have a vb app that connects to an access db, is it necessary to have a mdw file setup in the same directory as the db?

If so, why?

No, you can make the connection directly to de mdb file

yeah I know, but I was also told to avoid any db corruptions etc, I should really make a mdw and have it in the same directory, if multiple users are all hitting the same db throughout the day......

the mdb file is supposed to take care of that. i have never added this mwf file in any of my projects before...

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

MDW files allow you to secure your database using Access security. As a VB developer, why would you even want or need it?

In all probability all you are interested in are the tables on the database. Remember, if you carry the mdw files you will need viable user name and password combinations to use the database.

The only reason to use an MDW file is when there is not a choice, i.e., when ACCESS is expecting user/password combinations and will lock everyone else out.

If you don’t have to have it, don’t use it. It has absolutely nothing to do with database corruption.
