MDAC 2.1 Installation

I have an application that requires MDAC 2.1. When I try to install this I get a message that, starting with Windows 2000, the MDAC must be upgraded as part of a service pack. I downloaded Service Pack 2 from Microsoft, but I still receive the same message.

The program is called PAYBASE. This system is running Windows 2000 Professional.

MDAC 2.5 is included as a core component to the Windows 2000 operating system.
The dynamic link libraries included as a part of MDAC are now managed under the Windows File Protection feature. Therefore, an attempt to install an earlier version of MDAC is unsuccessful and the existing components remain on the
system. The MDAC 2.5 installer detects Windows 2000 and does not complete the installation. Therefore a re-installation of MDAC 2.5 on a Windows 2000-based
computer also fails.

To reinstall MDAC 2.5 on a Windows 2000-based computer, the complete operating system must be reinstalled or repaired.

"To reinstall MDAC 2.5 on a Windows 2000-based computer, the complete operating system must be reinstalled or repaired." - THIS STMT IS TOTALLY WRONG. TO REINSTALL THE MDAC2.5 JUST REINSTALL THE SERVICE PACK. THAT WILL DO THE JOB

Should there be any issues running a program written under MDAC 2.1 but installed under MDAC 2.6 SP2?

I am not sure. But usually the later version would take care of the previous versions' function. Did u go thru the release notes of 2.6 version. That might list any issues if incase present
