Anyone tried out the new software yet?

We often jump into the newest software level when it becomes available.
Not too sure about that this time.
This is a major feature rich release.
I was thinking that the next 2 or 3 installs might get programmed on 9, then upgraded to 10 just before implementation. That way we could roll back (provided we didn't use 10 specific features).
What do you guys think? (Sounds of chickens clucking...).
;>)

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this.

Why do they call is MCD 4.0 now ?
I do not mind using new releases
Every release has bug old or new
It depends on the customers wishes
If they demand very good functionality then you take a release that has the best performance for them

We usually wait for the first maintenance release before installing at a customer.

Just say no to release X.0

From my understanding...

MCD (Mitel Communications Director)is the new name for what was previously named '3300'. The reasoning is that the software is no longer restricted to the 3300 platforms (CXi, MXe, etc), instead you purchase an MCD release, of which you can install it on any of the given platforms (Mitel platforms, Sun server, or other servers).

Thanks

I knew the MCD part for the MXE server and for the Sun server

Just so the group is clear:

When you refer to a "3300 ICP" you are now referring to the hardware platform such as the CX, CXi, AX, MXe II. The HX platform will be excluded from the "3300 ICP" family of controllers.

When you refer to the "MCD" or "MCD 4.0" you are referring to the "old 3300 software" the what was SUPPOSE to be Rls 10.

As an example, one should not refer to a 3300 ICP MXe II + MCD as a "3300." In this example it should be referred to as "a 3300 MXe II controller running MCD 4.0."

It is not so evident in this first release, but in the upcoming release where customers will want to install the MCD on VMware it will start to be come more evident between what is hardware and what is software.

Upgraded one system yesterday from 9.0.0.41 to MCD4.0. One problem with IP trunking; couldn't put calls on hold or transfer. Product support found opton DPNSS_EARLY was disabled. Unable to re-enable through ESM but was able to go through CLI to turn it back on. So far everything else seems to be working fine. Thought that the upgrade took longer than usual for a Cx but it was Friday.

Hi nytalkin,
Did you do the upgrade to try new features (Dynamic ext etc.) or for some other reason?

Dave

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this.

I haven't seen any issues with SIP trunking (not to say there are none). Interopt testing has it working in the lab with 5-8 SIP Trunking providers with no issues.

Upgraded for a really dumb reason. System was originally licensed off-line. Needed to be able to move licenses around on the network. In order to unlock the App Record we had to upgrade from 9.0 Now I have to upgrade the EntMgr to 9.0 as well.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

There is some really good/cool functionality in 10.0/MCD 4.0. It's a worth while release to upgrade to in my opinion. Dynamic Extension (the "NEW Mobile Extension") is really cool/neat and saves a lot of hardware (PC/ISSs).

I'm dreading the future where this gets sold to users who have no telphony experience and need support. Nightmare's really do come true.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

You should be looking very forward to that. It is what we call "professional services" and is an excellent source of revenue.

I would even go a step further and say that the '3300' term is now obsolete. The hardware is simply a variant and is independent of the software running on it.

For example, the AX is hardware the same for the old '3300' product, now called MCD, as it is for the SX200.

Software: MCD or SX200
Platforms: CX, CXi, AX, MXe II, Sun Server, etc....

SX200 only runs on CX, CXi, and AX, while MCD runs on all of them.

* Note, sure the base hardware packages may change between the SX200 and MCD, but the underlying hardware is the same.

I know I'm wandering slightly off topic but!
Gonna have to go with Mitelguy and Irwin here...
We had our Mitel rep state quite emphatically that they wanted to be a software company and ultimatley didn't care what phones were running on the end of their software!
The days of dedicated/proprietary boxes looks to have a limited lifespan.

The dedicated hardware still play an important role in the layout and I don't see them going away anytime soon.

Unless you exclusively have SIP trunks, you'll still need some hardware to break out as a gateway to the PSTN. At the least you'll need something to connect POTS sets to.

If you will have sip trunks only then the Sun server is a good option
The only problem then is indeed faxes or modems but then an ATA should fix that problem too
