Does anybody know if MAT or OTM still uses "pdt" to access the switch?. I've tried using the ethernet connection & that seems to be using the "R Login" protocal.
Within my OTM site's configuration setting's, I have a "pdt" passcode box filled out with "******". The setting is set at the default "pdt" level.I do know the two passcode levels that are used.
I have a situation where I'm asked to see if "pdt" is used via a serial port & also ethernet. If "pdt" is used, is it for maintainence purposes?. The main reason is due to a change of "pdt" on a customers switch to improved their system security.
Will the customers OTM access be affected by a change of one or both of the "pdt" passwords?.
One final point which I can find out myself, is which "pdt" access level is used on OTM?

Thanks for reading this.

during an install you do not enter the pdt password in otm or mat 6.. the password entry is level one and level 2 password, the normal diff between those two passwords is that level cannot do a password change. other password restrictions are set a a user login level, that allows the setting of access to only certain loads.. if nortel has the pdt pasword built into the otm os, it comes that way from the factory. nortel does not share a method other then pdt to access loads from the ethernet side of the switch. you can use a serial server to assign an ip address to a sserial port, if you need to have ip access to command level..

Hello John

Thanks for the reply. It's not quite the answer that I was looking for. The thing is that the latest Call Server (Succession) Release 4 software, now has added text on the banner login screen. ...

I have a requirement to change both of the "pdt" 1 & 2 passcodes to make the switch secure a.s.a.p. I intend to carry out the change myself.
My company maintains the system & it has a policy of not giving out high level passwords to customers. As you know "pdt" is a much higher access level than the systems "PWD1" & "PWD2".
Because the later OTM software has a "pdt" password box, I'm just looking for help in finding out if the customer can still use his OTM after I have made the change, Or will he / she now have reduced facilities?.
This may be a problem that other system maintainers will now have to deal with. The only other option is for a site visit to be made to change the customers computer that has the OTM software on.
I hope that I've made it easier for you to understand my question.

the pdt password is used when OTM extracts files from the X21 software for use and display eg. Corporate directory and DBA ( disaster backup and recovery ). If you change this password the itmes above will stop working.

Many thanks "NortelEngineer" for your reply. I was starting to think along the same lines. I'd changed my "pdt" password on my own system last week & I noticed that the "Data Buffering" gave out a message something along the lines of "invalid password handle" etc.
I'm wondering if "pdt" is not used as much as it was for the "X11" Meridian systems. When I last played with "OTM" & "pdt", It was on a V25 Meridian. I thought that I had come across more issues with it back then!.
I think it's more appropiate to go ahead & change the passwords to improve system security & monitor the situation afterwards for any problems that may occur with the customers "OTM".
