ever since we upgraded to version 4 (we are on 4.1 currently) mas90 has been very slow. our setup is the following

single user
mas 90 data stores on a ms windows 2000 adv server 2 gig ram, quad xeon

the client roams from 3 different pc's ranging from a 700mhz p3 to a 2.4ghz p4 the lowest amount of ram any have is 512 meg.

100mb network

i have been trying to figure out why forms are taking over 10 seconds just to load when i decided to sniff the network. it seems that there is a very large amount of data being transfered over while the forms are loading up. I know we are running this with just a flat file format and i am very curious as to why it is so slow and a possible solution. currently the only thing that i can think of that might be causing this is fragmentation of the data in the flat files. this would cause the data files to be large and also slow down loading. if this is the case is there a way to repair/defrag these flat files?

any help would be greatly appreciated on this.

thanks

What you are seeing is the result of two things. First MAS90 is a file server system. The files being processed are sent to the work station for processing. In MAS200, the client server application all processing is done on the server. In general you will see more data corruption and a slower performing application with MAS90 vrs MAS200.

Also with AR and SO going to the new 4.XX standard with 4.10 you will see even more slowing due to the nature of the way files are now called. This has been discussed in some of the pre-release documentation.

i sorta assumed that as well being that it isn't a real database server, just throwing files back and forth. we just did the upgrade to 4.1 and yes we do see even more slowing down and were never informed that this would happen. to be honest with the problems we have had with just upgrading to 4.1 going to mas200 will get a not to happy welcome. in the mean time is there anything i can do to help speed it up?

also can you link specifically to any of the pre-release documentation so i can have it at my fingertips when i am being told by tech support that it is faster and that it is all my fault that the program is slowing down.

thanks

I have never been a fan of MAS90. Have always prefered MAS200 for the speed of processing and lack of data corruption.

Another suggestion regarding AV configuration is don't use network scanning. Norton AV is the only major brand that sets this by default.

Upping your RAM to a gig on the workstation may give better performace as well.
