I have a NiceLog version 8.8 logger that when I do a query on channel 2 the playback volume is really low. I have the volume levels up all the way on my PC. I have AGC turned on for this channel too. Is there something I'm missing or is there a hardware problem?? I am playing back through the LAN but the problem is there when you play back through the RAP box too. Help

Monitor a live call (you'll need speakers plugged into the laf card) and see if there is a change in volume level. Also what is type of logger (anal, extn, trunk) If it is an extn or analogue recorder check the device being recorded is o.k or swap 2 ch's over and see if the low volume moves to another channel.

The volume is still low when I do a live monitor. This is an analog logger. I am going to have the telephone set changed out just to make sure it isn't the telephone set.

I am assuming that other recording channels are working fine?

Yes, it could be the phone, but if the problem is not fixed when you change the phone then try the following:

If you have a spare recording port, can you move this phone to the spare and see what happens?

How are you recording the phone, from the handset (this does not always work very good and is the poorest recording quality)?

How long is the cable that goes from the logger to the phone (long cables with analog cause low/bad recording quality)?

If the recording works fine when you move it to another port, then the problem could be the ADIF card or ALI24 card, my guess would be the ALI24 but could be cabling depends on how you have the logger wired. If it has the same problem on the new port, then you should check the cabling.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming that you are using total recording (i.e. hard wired to the extension) on this logger...

Just a thought, and I know it's REALLY simple, but have you checked the recording level of the channel? It's entirely possible that someone has inadvertently reduced the recording volume.

Chris.

I did change outhe phone, I have also changed out the associtated hardware with the phone, next step is to move it to a spare logger port. I have checked the Input channel level and it is set to AGC, but I have changed it to manual and set it just as high as it would let me and it did not make a difference.
