We have a few computers running Win98 and Win2K. The problem that we are having is that we have local and network printers hooked up, and when some of our users try to print they will get a message saying that a printer needs to be set up before they can print. The printers have been set up but every now and then you go look in the printer control box and there will be no printers showing. But if you shutdown the system and bring it back up and look in the printer control box you will see the printer but after printing a few documents the printer will diappear again. Has anyone else seen this and how did you fix it???

Is this only happening on the w2K machines? If so sounds like spooler service stops.
Check event viewer, and reinstall updated drivers.

No this is not only happening on Win2k. The first time it happened it was on a Win98 machine. That went on for a while when we finally replaced the printer cable it went away for a while but now it seems to be coming back. I tried a new cable on the Win2K machine but that did not help it at all.

The network printer is used by a Win2K machine that loses it.
