Up until recently, if you sold an upgrade to a customer running old hardware and the new hardware was an MXe-III you had to jump thru many hoops and alternate hardware to upgrade the system thru the release 4.0 stage. (4.0 was not supported on the MXe III)

Thankfully, Mitel has addressed this serious issue with the release of 4.0 SP4 that can now be loaded onto an MXe III.

Be aware that, if you use the SWI tool, you must use the version that comes with 4.0 SP4 for this to be possible otherwise the SWI will tell you that it cannot be done.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Thanks kbw ddidnt know this. Saves a lot of messing

Yes previously you had to find an MXe II or MXe upgrade to MCD 4 on it then use a backup of MCD 4 to restore on the MXe III running 4.2. Try finding a MXe II lying around when you really needed one.

One note we have run into when upgrading from Release 9. If in a cluster you had numbers not in the telephone directory ( i.e you didn't want them spread across the cluster ) I found on the upgrade that these numbers with no name get "locked" into the system RDN form. Now that you can't edit that form you can't remove them. Only way I could find to fix was give the numbers names in release 9 then do the upgrade.

I'd tell you a UDP joke but I'm afraid you won't get it. TCP jokes are the best because you always get them.
