What is the procedure to add licenses to a controller that has no access to the internet
using the software installer tool? we used to use our laptops as the gateway and take the controller off line the network, butr we cannot take the unit off the network during regular hours?

Release 6.0 allows you to license offline (using Software Installer tool)
[ul]
[li]Use Software Installer tool[/li]
[li]Choose full install[/li]
[li]De-Select all options except licensing[/li]
[li]Run the upgrade[/li]
[li]Licensing will fail[/li]
[li]You will be given option to store the necessary files (or this will be done automatically)[/li]
[li]You then move your laptop to an internet ready connection and run the files necessary to download the license[/li]
[li]Then you reconnect to the 3300 and upload the licenses.[/li]
[li]I'm pretty sure the SWI tells you how to do this. I did it once and it seemed fairly easy.[/li]
[/ul]
Also, if your laptop has access to the internet but the Controller does not the software Installer tool will do the trick immediately
[ul]
[li]At release 6.0 the system no longer resets when licensing with this method[/li]
[/ul]

Because you are running 6.0 you you should be ok as kwb says.
If you were running a previous version I would still think using a laptop as a gateway would be quicker than a restart of the system using the SI.

Would it be possible to use the second LAN port on the MXE, plug a laptop into it with its NIC card addressed to the gateway for the VLAN and use it to license if the laptop had a wifi or cell connection?

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Loopy,
I've done that before on 9.0 systems, I would have to assume it will still work on a 6.0. I don't remember exactly how I did it and I had to play around a bit with the different default gateway settings (3300, PC wired NIC, and wireless on the PC), but it works.

A workaround that I've used on occasion again using the SWI tool

Connect to the controller and use SWI Tool up to the point of retrieve licenses

Move laptop to different lan allowing internet access

Retrieve the licenses and then reconnect to the pbx

Continue with SWI Tool and you're done
