We have a customer that I am installing a new CM 8.1 for on a G450 gateway. They are using centralized licensing. I know that I have to use both the Host ID and location number to generate the licenses in PLDS for the CM, but I have been told that I have to generate the AVP license on just the Host ID. I am not exactly sure how to do this, and am hesitant to try because once things are messed up in PLDS it can be a challenge to get them fixed.

Do I generate all the licenses on the Host ID plus location and then go back and rehost on just the Host?

Centralized licensing only applies to certain products. Using Centralized licensing allows you to load multiple licenses of the same application type (for example CM/CC). Applications which are "Global" in nature should not be attached to a license with a centralized ID. So you would create 1 set of licenses with just the Host ID then a license for CM/CC using the Host ID and the 5 digit Centralized ID. Keep in mind PLDS is screwed up and won't allow you to use the same host id so you need to sort of camel-case the id (WebLM is not case sensitive). For example, in PLDS it will accept 00-AB-BC-00-AB-BC and 00-aB-BC-00-AB-BC as two different host IDs. Pretty sure Avaya has not fixed this issue yet.

I tried it but then as we got an AAM at the 3 locations I had to switch to WebLM's for the AAM so figured whats the point might as well split the CM's also. But pretty sure when I did it the licenses sorted themselves out in a way, so LAC we got for one system which contain AVP/AVP util/CM/SMGR/etc. I registered against the licenses Host ID and put 00001 for the centralized license box, then the next LAC containing other CM etc. I registered with 00002 in the centralized box. The uncentralized Licenses like AVP just clocked up against the license host to use Jimbo's example 00-AB-BC-00-AB-BC where as the First CM xml file would show 00-AB-BC-00-AB-BC-00001, and the second CM 00-AB-BC-00-AB-BC-00002.

When we got AAM's I just went back and unreg all the LAC's and then started again with the SMGR and the 2 WebLM, PLDS will let you in and out license thousands of times from what I understand.

I have a single LAC code with both the AVP and all other licenses. When I generate the license file, are you saying that I do it twice with the same LAC, not generating one for the AVP the first time when using the 5 digit location code, and then a second time not using the 5 digit code?

I am hesitant to do this until I know for sure, as PLDS can be a pain to resolve issues with.

no just do it once with the centralized 5 digit code and the stuff that uses it like CM will should 00001 (or whatever you set) in the XML file and the AVP for example will not.

As for PLDS I have moved licenses about between the 2 WebLM's and SMGR that I have, even to the point of deactivating them all and starting again, I have 26 LAC's and do not find that part difficult. Was a bit of a pain when I first started using it as I have Avaya Blue background until a year and half ago so it was all a bit strange at first. Its GRT I think is a ball ache
