I recently installed Systemworks 2003 on a laptop running Win XP professional. I connect the laptop to a lan and internet using a Seimens SS 2604 router. After I installed NAV I lose my lan and internet connection when NAV launches at boots up. If I uninstall NAV my lan and internet connections are fine. I have looked at every knowledge base I can find on both Symentec and Seimens and can find no reference to this type problem or set up instructions. The router has a firewall and seems to be a fairly standard 4 ports usb router.

What do you mean by "lose my internet connection" ?
Do you get a message that the connection is disabled?
Try to install only the Antivirus part of the Symantec software and see if that changes anything.

Before I installed Norton System Works including NAV when I booted my computer I could connect to a second computer through my Speedstream hub or to the internet. After I installed NAV when I would boot I could pick My Network connections and could view my lan but when I picked the shared files on the second computer I could not get access. If I launched IE 6 it would go in an offline mode.

If I went into my network and created a new network connection it would reestablish the connection.

What I found is one article in the MS Knowledge Base--317485. "Your Computer Loses IEEE 1394 Network Connectivity When Yor Resume from Suspend or Hibernate" It says Arp1394.sys driver is flushing cache but the bridge miniport driver does not.

The work around seems to be deactivating and reactivating the bridge miniport connections or clearing cache with arp - d ip_address. I think this is what was happening because when I established a new lan connection I could access my other computer and the internet after going through the establish a connection wizard.

I tried the repair function on the minibridge port and this sometimes would fix the problem sometimes it did not. I had not tried the deactivate/reactivate option. It seems that with NAV installed the same problem with Suspend and Hibernate was happening when I started the computer. I reinstalled NAV for about the 6th time yesterday and it is working currently, but I would go weeks before without losing my connection between computer or the internet.

If it starts losing connectivity again I will try the deactivate/reactivate option. In the MS knowledge base artice it says that the IEEE 1394 adapter may not work for approximately 10 minutes with this problem. I guess I could wait about 10 minutes after starting the computer and then see if the adapter would be working.
