Hi,

Here's the spec of my PC...

ECS K7S5A mobo with latest BIOS (dated 1st Oct 02) and latest SiS AGP drivers.
AMD Athlon 2000 XP.
GeForce 4 Ti4600 with latest WHQ drivers.
3COM NIC.
1 stick of 512Mb DDR2100 RAM.
300W PSU.
Windows XP Pro.

Everytime I boot up I get a blue screen STOP error just before the log on prompt. The STOP error code is normally 0x00000050 or 0x0000008E.
VGA mode still gives the STOP error or the screen just freezes on the Desktop before the icons are loaded, so I don't think it's a graphics card problem - I have the latest WHQ drivers for it anyway.

However, I can get into Safe Mode with no problem.
I've used MSCONFIG to remove all startup items - same problem. So I tried stopping all the services but got a different STOP error mentioning something about IRQL being less than or equal to!

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Oh one other thing to note is that when the PC is cold it works fine. So I thought it was an overheating problem, but I run it in Safe Mode for a few hours and it was fine, so it can't be overheating.

Help! I'm pulling my hair out here and I haven't got much left as it is! ;-)

is it the same stop error every time, if so it could be the ram, or maybee a bios setting, have you loaded the fail safe defaults? try that firs, then try a stick of known good ram. see if that helps

Thanks for your help.
I managed to resolve this problem finally! It was actually caused by the Northbridge overheating! There is a heatsink on it, but I think I need an extra fan just to keep it running cool - you could have fried an egg on it!

Cheers all.

Hi,

I have a brand new PC.
The spec is as follows :
Abit KW7 MB
AMD 2600 Sempron
512 mb memory
120gb WD HDD
ATI Radeon 9200
DVD RW

The problem I have is quite strange. I am trying to install Windows XP and during the installation I get a blue screen that says IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and some memory adresses.I do not understand because nothing is installed or connected to the pc because it is brand new with a brand new windows Xp installation.
Please Help me I dont know what to do.
Gerrit

Start a new thread in forum779, Win XP forum. By the way, your error is usually caused by a bad memory stick. Try another stick, or run "memtest86". Runs in DOS from a floppy.
