jumpstart and dhcp

Traditionally jumpstart requires that you have a boot server on the same segment as the cient which is being built.

Is this requirement stil applicable ? I think I saw somewhere that with Solaris 8 and dhcp this bottlenec is gone ?

Is this true and can the dhcp server be windows ?

Think it has to be on the same segment for broadcasts RARP/bootp etc
