My problem is this: Yesterday I booted one of our backup servers. I didn't know that there was been some hw changes and after the boot library and tape drive scsi-addresses are scrambled. I haven't been run jbconfig on this system with lot of remote devices and for some reason I don't want to scramble the whole setup.

I have now only one drive which is not working, but I need that drive tomorrow, so I guess I have to run jbconfig/jbedit. Can you tell me how it's done. Drive 2 is my problem. it used to be /dev/rmt/1cbn and it is supposed to be /dev/rmt/0cbn now. Forget the /dev/rmt/4cbn. It's the unconfigured drive which caused the whole conflict

So my question is now: How can you tell networker drive 2 should use address /dev/rmt/0cbn? This is Solaris 9 system with NW 7.2.

Here you can see the current drive setup:

drive 1 (/dev/rmt/2cbn) slot :
drive 2 (rd=b-nwsvqd01:/dev/rmt/0cbn) slot : service mode
(rd=b-nwsvpd01:/dev/rmt/0cbn) slot : service mode
(/dev/rmt/1cbn) slot 142: 000227 service mode
drive 3 (rd=nwst1sr108:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr107:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr106:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr105:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr104:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr103:\\.\Tape0) slot 547: 000541
(rd=nwst1sr102:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst1sr101:\\.\Tape0) slot :
drive 4 (rd=nwst2sr601:\\.\Tape0) slot 541: 000535
drive 5 (rd=nwst2sr114:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst2sr113:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst2sr112:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst2sr111:\\.\Tape0) slot 597: 000591
(rd=nwst2sr110:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=nwst2sr109:\\.\Tape0) slot :
drive 6 (rd=b-nwnwstgn:\\.\Tape0) slot :
(rd=b-nwsvqd01:/dev/rmt/1cbn) slot :

I have no experience with jbedit. I would go ahead and change the resources. The only problem is to find the right one. For UNIX and Linux you may use the following command to search for the NW 7 resource file:
find /nsr/res/nsrdb -type f -exec grep -l "string" {} \;

You may want to searc for "NSR device" and "NSR jukebox".

Do not forget to restart NW once you are done.

Well thanks for the info but this doesn't actually help because I don't know about these odd lines which your command gives as output:

/nsr/res/nsrdb/00/001e12a2000000000000000041d937b10a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/00/0612061f000000000000000042678a8c0a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/00/0618061f000000000000000042678a8c0a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/00/06ce4b1c0000000000000000428b17c60a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/01/0d6211160000000000000000430f00b10a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/01/0c07257200000000000000004358e3740a9d510a
/nsr/res/nsrdb/01/001f12a2000000000000000041d937b10a9d510a

etc.

If I do a jbconfig and before that make a copy of nsrdb can I restore the current config renaming the old nsrdb back?

OK, i thought you are a bit more familiar with the NW resources.

Since NW 7, all resources are strored in /nsr/res/nsrd and subdirectories. Each file only contains one resource. You can modify resources when you restart the NW daemons later.
The output of the commend reports you the filenames where you find the string you were searching for - in this case backup devices and a jukebox. Of course you have to open the files to see what's inside. Good luck.

I did jbconfig anyway and it solved my problem. I have to check those recourse files later. thank you for answers.
