Issues with OcTel 250/350 System

This is a recent problem that we are running into with our system. It's happening with increasing frequency and I need to find a reason why and how to correct it.

It happens when we transfer calls. I thought it was isolated to a few individuals and checked the programming of their specific mailboxes but it's now happening system wide.

Sometimes when we transfer calls instead of it going into a persons mailbox or hearing their greeting, we get "Enter mailbox password". I can't find anything on this error anywhere but need to get it corrected.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

what kind of pbx are you using and where are the transfers coming from ? any phone or a console. In some setups when you call the octel it thinks the transfering phone is trying to get into it's own mailbox but i will need to know some more info and have you updated anything on your PBX

Also, does the problem only occur when you transfer calls to extensions that are busy forwarded to the voicemail versus ring-no-answer forwarded to the voicemail?
 
We are running a Mitel SX-200 Digital PBX, it's about 15 years old. I have not changed any of the PBX programming to date. This is happening when we transfer from the console and from individual extensions. The majority of our extensions are set to go to voicemail on busy/ring no answer.

About the only info I could find on-line states that I should reboot the OcTel system. I'm not sure of that's a good idea or not. Ours is an older system and although I have rebooted it once or twice before, It's not under a service contract and knowing my luck lately there will be issues.

Any other thoughts?

I have not found any notes on this problem i did find one or two that may be related. this is from the config note for mitels using flt-m's That is what you are using right ? It may help to reboot the octel or to pull the superset cards in the Mitel to let them reset and see if that changes anything. Do you know how to use the online CDR ? If so see what is coming into the system when the call fails.

If it has been working fine then something has changed are you getting any alarms in the status log ?

8.5 Calls released too quickly by the attendant console to a station that is busy or all calls forwarded to the Octel 250 pass the trunk ID instead of the extension ID. Callers hear system greeting instead of personal greeting. To avoid this problem, the console operator should be instructed to wait approximately one second before releasing the call.

8.6 In order for the Superset 4 to function properly, the -10V adjustment on the SX-100/200 power supply must be at the proper setting. Place the -10V Rail voltage indicator between 10.2 and 10.3. Check the indicator occasionally to verify that movement has not occurred.

You'll have to forgive me I am new to programming and supporting PBX's and the OcTel systems. The persons who were trained in this are long gone.

I'm not sure where to find the status logs? It may be that we are releasing the calls to soon. I will work that theory for a day or so and if that doesn't correct the problem, I'll attempt the reboot of the system.

this error shows a problem with the flt card in slot 2 (the first flt card) port b so port 1b or the 2nd port in the system. a reboot may take care of the problem or it could be a bad port on the Mitel side

I am in Wilmington Massachusetts, it's about 10 miles north of boston. I will try the reboot tomorrow then if you think that might help?

I didn't want to do it until I had that report checked out.

It very well could be on the PBX side, I am aware of a couple of bad ports on it but I thought that I had them blocked out.

Thanks for your help with this I really appreciate it. Since the tech person was let go, I've had to pick up so much of his work and I'm not a programmer. I've been flying blind here.
 
If needed what is your hourly rate to come in an evaluate a system and what is the cost to replace a FTL card?
 
Try reseating the effected FLT first, only affects 8 ports, reboot if the problem continues
 
oh and remember to shut the card down in the maint menu 13, then follow the instructions on the screen, you will need a philips screwdriver if it has never been removed before (Octel loved using an air wrench to tighten those screws)
