I am running my own mail server from my a cable modem connection of my home. (I am using a dynamic DNS client for my domains) I have no issues recieving mail but sending to certain users who ISP's block SMTP traffic from any mail that is comming from a DHCP internet address. (They are doing this to combat spam, but I'm not spamming) I can get arround this issue by configureing my outlook client with my ISP gateway but I will get rejection mails from the ISP if I try to send via Webmail or directly from Server applications.

I do have a vaild SMTP gateway server trough my ISP and I have an ID that will allow me to send mail through that server.

Can any one help me get around this issue? I'm sure that this will be an issue more and more people will be facing if you are running mail servers from home..

*ASSUMING* that you are correctly posting in the qmail list, you should be able to use the 'smtproutes' file to force the outgoing smtp mail delivery to go through your ISP for *all* email.

Google for it, shouldn't be a problem finding a good example.

That sounds like that's what I need but I can't seem to find the file.. do you know where it is located. Yes I am using qMail.

thanks

The file smtproutes will not exist under default conditions. Create one under /var/qmail/control (or where ever your qmail control files reside).

If your ISP's mail server is foomail.foo.com and you are going to send all messages through that server, smtproutes will contain:

:foomail.foo.com

For more information, take a look at the man page for qmail.remote

I assume that if ther is not a file there then just to create a text file with the info then stop and start qmail..?
