Hello
At the beginning I apologize for my basic English :/
My customer bought 8520T ISDN phones for his old Definity system (G3siV6, G3V6i.03.0.223.5, offer cat:A).
He connected it to TN556B BRI Line card. 8510T ISDN phones have been working without any problems in this system. 8520T is on the type phone selection list without using the alias for station.
Customer added additional power supply 1151B1. 8520T phones started, I can make an outgoing call (other station is ringing), but the phone doesn't make any sounds - there is no signal in the handset or in the hands-free mode.
I can't make incoming connection (to 8520T phone)- phone not ringing
The status of the port and station seems to be correct:

Before wrote post here, I tried:
- configuration using data module
- SPID changes (I set 0000000000 and 1386) using code Menu -> Mute -> 46
- clear all parameter stored in memory used code Menu -> Mute -> 26
but in addition to the fact that the lamp started to operate after pressing the button "speakerphone" (without the sound in the speaker) nothing changed :(

Can any of you tell me why the phone does not make any sounds? Or suggest additional actions to diagnose it?
Access to any detailed documentation for this model is very limited (compared, for example, to the 8510T).

Please, help me.

I know, they had the status "Refubrished by the manufacturer." They were packed in original boxes with a characteristic adhesive tape, which is used for boxes with Avaya equipment. I know how the packaging of such equipment looks like, because I work in a company that is a business partner of Avaya. I also know that in those time it was Lucent or AT&T, not Avaya.

tohm I wish I had a dollar for every new phone I purchased and was found to be defective right out of the box, I could take a long vacation, just saying. Don't be fooled by pretty packaging

But you have to admit that buy two phones with identical damage isn't an everyday situation. I don't just mean boxes, I rate the technical condition of the phones as 10/10. They certainly don't look like they have been removed from the desk and renewal was not limited to wiped the housing using cloth.
I think that we are unnecessarily leaving the main topic.

thom, no not when they come from the same lot number, we had a whole batch that were bad

Hello
I received 8520T phones from my client and launched them in my laboratory. The phones work correctly, but only in u-law mode. Our systems require A-law mode. How can I change the settings ISDN 8520T phones from u-law to A-law?

well I guess we were right about you having bad phones, look in the manual

The only thing that comes to mind is try changing the country protocol to another value other than 1

What do you mean? In the Definity system set to a-law, the phone starts, but the sound is distorted. If I change into "system parameters country-options" the "Companding Mode" parameter from A-law to u-law, the phone works 100% correctly. So these phones are not damaged, they works in u-law instead of A-law mode. They were bought in the USA but I want to use them in Europe. Are you suggesting that changing u-law to a-law is not possible from the (secret) menu of the phone?

I didn't say that and yes u law is for the USA so yes you need to be a law, I am not sure on how to change it from ulaw to alaw so good luck
