Is the any conversion utility tool for data base migration?

Hi Folks!

I need to migrate a OPT11C customer database and the target is CS1000E 6.0; some people has told me that there's a tool that can help me with the automation of this process, but cannot give me more information related to this tool.

Do you know it? can you give me some clues?

If your Option11C is on a release that can be directly upgraded to 6.0, then you really just need to copy the database files to a Compact Flash card.

If you have one of the Compact Flash to PCMCIA Type II Adapters, then you can Archive the database from the Option 11c to the CF card in LD 143.

The OPT 11 is in rls 4.5, I think this is not a direct upgrade.

It is not a direct upgrade in the sense that you need to change out hardware to support 6.0, but the database may migrate directly to 6.0 from 4.5.

I will check my doc's and post my findings.

According to the upgrades ntp # NN43041-458 v03.04 June 2009 (p76)- Upgrades to CS1000 Release 6.0 are supported on Release 23 or later.

There is a procedure for backing up the database for SSC based systems starting on p 94.

So the database will automatically be converted to Release 6 as part of your upgrade.

If the system is equipped with IOP/CMDU cards the

I believe you send it to Nortel, and they convert it. But an Option 11C does not have an IOP/CMDU card, so you should be ok.

So just one last thing, if I need to change some lops I have to do the conversion in a manually way, right? otherwise, which is the method for the migration?

What loops do you have to change? The conversion to 6.0 ( 5.0 or newer actually ) is going to change all the loop numbers anyway.

Not sure what type of changes you need to make but you can make changes ahead of time. When your done archive the database to a flash and the upgrade will convert it to rel 6. I've done this same upgrade recently and it went fine. You could stage the new cppm card and load the database and then make your changes. The database changes made after your archive will need to be added to your rel 6 converted database.

Just some random thoughts, hope it helps.

The Nortel Communication Server 1000E Upgrade Hardware UPgrade Procedures NTP # NN43041-464 v03.04 June 2009 has the specific upgrade for your situation.

This book details exactly how to take your existing Option 11 and upgrade it to a CS1000E.

On page 29 is a Cabinet/Chassis to Media Gateway Conversion chart:

Main Cabinet maps to IPMG 000 0
Expansion Cabinet/Chassis 1 maps to IPMG 000 1
Expansion Cabinet/Chassis 2 maps to IPMG 004 0
Expansion Cabinet/Chassis 3 maps to IPMG 004 1
Expansion Cabinet/Chassis 4 maps to IPMG 008 0

So for a typical 3 cabinet option 11:

TNs in the main cabinet range from 1.0 to 10.31, After conversion, the TNs would be 0.0.1.0 - 0.0.10.31

TNs in cabinet 1 range from 11.0 to 20.31, after conversion those TNs are mapped to 0.1.1.0 - 0.1.10.31

TNs in cabinet 2 range from 21.0 to 30.31, after conversion those TNs are mapped to 4.0.1.0 - 4.0.10.31

There is a similar table for mapping Phantom & Virtual TNs from the Option 11 to the CS1000E:

These conversions are automatically done as part of the database conversion, and are detailed in the Upgrade NTPs.

I was trying to change the loops because the customer wants to make the database migration from OPTION11 4.5 to 1000E Rls. 6.0; but if you tell me that the machine does it... I think I'm trying to reinvent the wheel.

This change only applies if I use the same OPTION 11 and upgrade the sw or if I change the option 11 to a 1000E?

Please, can you provided me more details about this process?

But I'm realizing that the conversions are automatically done, in both cases?

1. When the upgrade is using the same OPTION 11?
2. When migrating to a 1000E?

If you are upgrading from an Option 11 (Small System TN Format) to CS1000E (Large System TN Format), then the Option 11 Card Slots are automatically converted to the CS1000E Loops as part of the software install process on the new CPPM Call Servers.

If you are upgrading from another type of switch (for example Option 51C, 61C or 81C) which already uses Large System TN Format, then your Loops will not change, your network will not change, and your core will not change much - you may need to upgrade processors.

Yes, the software is the same. Opt.11 wallmount cabinet or rackmount cabinets. Are you thinking of changing your wallmount to rackmount?

Yes it will work. I need to look but you may need to move some cards b/c the wallmount cabinet gives you more physical card slots compaired to the rackmount. How many cabinets does the 11c have currently?

Remember if you are going to 6.00 there are the new MG-10 Rackmount cabinets that give you 10 usable card slots.
