Hello,

I am working in a rather big company with several needs around reports and how the data should be presented. In order to please as many as possible we have some big universes with several hierarchys to choose from when we building reports and decides how to drill down in the reports.

And when I am using Business objects I can choose which hierarchy I want.

But when I am trying to do the same in WEBI I cant find the same choice. And the selection of dimensions to drill makes the WEBI-reports too slow, and the users might loos the track of where they are in the reports.

I have tried to search through the manual and done some “Googling” and it seems that WEBI don’t have the opportunity to choose among hierarchys.

So now I have to turn to you folks with this question:

Is there a way to specify which hierarchy I will use in my WEBI reports, or do I have to make my reports with Business objects and export these to the corporate documents?

Oh I almost forgotten, I am using version 6.5 of Business Objects.

Best regards

Gunnien

Unfortunately, you've found another limitation of WebI.

The fact is that it is not the same as the client. Hopefully, the sort of functionality you want will be there in the future.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for a quick answer, I was a little afraid for just that answer.

Then the next natural question………

Since it is impossible to choose just one hierarchy to drill trough in WEBI like the client.

Is there a way to keep the drill I have in my client report still after it is distributed trough corporate documents and infoview?

Because I am not able to figure out how I am going manage it.

Nope. If you build a report in the client, it cannot be drilled on via the web.

Thanks Steve,

Then I have to hope for some improovement when Crystal reports are fully implemented :)

Or we have to reconsider our policy og big universes.

What do you mean? Crystal Reports is not going to replace BO. At least not for a few more releases.

:)

Crystal reports is not going to replace BO. But we was told that BO should start using the reportengine from CR very soon, by an BO consultant.

You have to define "very soon". BO XI (11) comes out next quarter. The server will be based on Crystals architecture, but will also have WebI capability. However, it will NOT be able to refresh BO full-client reports.

I wouldn't count on BO 12 until early 2006. Even then it will interesting to see how combined the engines are. Keep in mind that BO's query engine is superior. So, the intergration will be alot of work.
