Morning,

I've just arrived to collect a download etc. from a customer's old site before setting up their new system. I've just found that the old system is a 406 vers 1.4. Does anyone know if it is possible to export anything like directory entries (or anything useful) from something so archaic for use in the new 500v2 8.1?

I'm suspecting a total re-write. luckily they have a copy of the old manager installed, so at least I can get a download.

Thanks

open both configs in 8.1 (two instances, old and news) and copy and paste :)

you should still be able to open the config, just not manage the the device

Don't do that, I have done a lot upgrades ( about thirty last 12 months ( need a SOE, 403, 406V1/V2 or a 412? Or linecards? VCM? Expansion modules? )) from lower versions as 2.1 and copy/paste has given me some stress hours.
Now I either export only with CSV or just re-type the whole config.

A simple mind delivers great solutions

Well there you go. Cant say I have done any upgrades that go from that old to this new....

just export the directory and retype the rest....

It turns out that on the ancient systems (I actually installed it 10 years ago this month!) you can export entries as a .exp file. So I gave it a go at only exporting the bits I thought would be relevant to their new system, and it seems to have worked. The new fields in users just don't have any entries, but the rest seems OK.

Just treat like any other install. Use the existing system as reference and type out from scratch.

Much safer!!

I have done may upgrades as well. you can get the CSV file from the old system then import to the new version but you will have many different problems pop up. one I had everything work except the phone wouldn't transfer call between phone. I built a new config than imported the new database and it worked correctly. Sometimes short cuts are not short cuts!
