Hi Guys;

I had a customer ask if it's possible to remove the "beep" that sounds (just before you start speaking) when paging?

Yeah or Nay?

Thanks.

How will you know when to speak into the handset.
There is a few seconds delay before the voice channel opens.
Then the people hearing i t will need to know when a pge is coming through.

Oh and the answer to your question,,don't know???

if you only want to page over loudspeakers then you probably be able to find devices that you call on an analog extension and that do not have the beep over the speakers (I am thinking of Bogen devices inparticular) but paging over the phones no way to get rid of it.

It is not as it is ancient technology.
Paging is hardly used (except for the old fasion US) and is replaced by dect phones.
Paging systems are hardly being understand what is actually said and are annoying to anybody who do not need to listen to it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Paging is important here (Canada too tlpeter :)) because customer service demands that you yell at people on the floor to come somewhere to do things (helping old ladies getting their groceries into their car etc) and having an IP DECT handset for everyone is not feasible as they would break them in a week or lose them.
Life in North America is so very different from Europe and paging is a requirement for at least 60% of all businesses either overhead or through the phones.

I tried that (with coffee) and my wife told me to get it myself (home office has its disadvantages)

I put in a paging system last week. Nothing beats being on a ladder when someone in the back of the factory screams for a forklift when you aren't far from the speaker. That site actually liked the beep.

CAN YOU HEAR ME AGAIN biv343?

or is your hearing still shot :)

Paging is not common at all over here.
To be honest i even never implemented one myself.
I only had to connect one for one or two times yet.
No i am not installing IPO's for a couple of months yet :)

Guess you have not installed an IPO in a warehouse or auto parts/repair shop. Very important to have it, simple as hell to setup. The beep has to be there, in some form. Connection tone and all.

Years ago I went on a trouble call for paging not working in the tool storage area room of a factory. The paging horn had been removed from that room, presumably by someone who wanted to hide out in that room and not be bothered. They were kind enough to leave the wiring intact. The shop supervisor didn't like what he saw when I explained to him why the paging wasn't working. Dangling wires produce no sound. A new horn fixed that issue, and to the best of my knowledge wasn't removed again.

Either that (biv343) or going out on a call because the paging isn't working and it's because someone didn't like how loud it was and turned the volume all the way down.
So that's a no, to removing/changing the Wav file that causes the beep (wherever one may find it)?

We tried the no paging thing here at Walgreens, didn't work. Instead of making obnoxious pages, the directors started training employees to say pages in a much better manner. DECT phones are given to managers, but when you have 240 employees at a store such as Mariano's Or Meijer, it's not feasible to give everyone a DECT phone.

Tlpeter, I was in Europe recently and heard quite a bit of paging at TK Maxx, Tesco, Debenhams and an office that I worked in.

I don't like the IP Office paging beep, period.

Ok, seeing that I've hooked up hundreds of paging systems in my lifetime, I want to vent a bit:

I find a telephone paging system to be something of a modern marvel, not an outdated technology. Perhaps its a technology that never caught on in Europe, but it's a part of the North American lifestyle whether you like it or not.

It's hard for me to believe that paging systems are not common in Europe. Maybe they aren't popular in small offices and some retail stores in Europe...but saying that they aren't anywhere is hard for me to believe.

What about train stations? Do you give all of the passengers DECT phones to carry around so they can hear when there is a problem in the station or a gate change?
What about hospitals? In an Emergency or Code Blue calls, are you saying the hospitals in Europe do not use paging systems? Along with physical Vocera and Ascom DECT phones/pagers, hospitals in the states rely on paging systems for fast instantaneous announcements in an emergency.
Are there no paging systems at airports in Europe? I believe I heard one at the Dublin airport when I was visiting there.

Europe does tend to like their coffee a different way than we do in the USA, so its your cup of tea and I respect you Tlpeter and my friends in Europe. But paging is definitely not "old fashioned."

Also the other telecom systems out there such as Toshiba, Shoretel, Mitel, Allworx, Asterisk, Panasonic, LG Ericsson, and many others have dedicated page ports that make hooking up paging systems right on the PBX or Key System.

I hardly think Avaya said "hey paging is an old fashioned (steam train engine, rotary dial) technology" when they didn't offer a page port. They probably figured there were easier ways to implement it than providing a page port or they wanted to spend money on better features.

Avaya did do things differently with IP Office and quite a bit differently from US pbxs.
But their model isn't too bad and you do get paging.
In fact you get paging on a analog trunk or analog extension port of your choosing.
I am really scratching my head trying to figure out what the complaint is all about.
I suppose you could submit a feature request to Avaya but I doubt they would react since paging over two types of ports already exist.
Still you can submit the request.

Hey its better than a dedicated paging port from a manufacturer that no longer exists.
