I just read some Avaya documents and realize that R7.0 is no longer supported ever since 8.1 is released? Is that true that Avaya products/software have such a short lifespan? Our original plan was to wait for 9.0 but all of a sudden we need to upgrade now?

Thanks

That is correct only 8.0 and 8.1 are supported

Gotta love avaya

Why do you have to uprade? Is there a problem? If not, the majority of our customers run 7.0 without any issue and we are not intending to upgrade if they are happy with the system as it is.

A simple mind delivers great solutions

Indeed, it's all null and void anyway. Even if the system is a week old and running the latest firmware Avaya will not support it unless you pay for a support contract. Then if you actually manage to register it with the process even they don't understand they will support you in much the same manner they did before they started the contracts thing i.e doing the minimum required without making much progress :)

These all make sense - I'm just surprised that Avaya is weak in this case comparing to others. Not to mention that I feel we are being dumped after less than 2 years that they won't release patch any more...

It's dumb I know , but the licenses really aren't too bad

It's always good to stay up to date anyway

By too bad I mean too expensive

Well if it comes to my personal PC I will agree to keep up-to-date, but not a phone system that runs the lifeline of our business. Every upgrade has risks or bugs, not to mention the interruption and the coordination if you have multiple sites. Releasing new version is one thing, forcing your customers to upgrade by dropping the older version quickly is totally different...

I agree it is not the best business practice on avayas end but a 7-8 upgrade is very easy and I do them all after hurs remotely in usually under 30 min

How many sites do you have and do they all have VM Pro attached? Is it just a matter of uploading the image and reboot and then IPO will convert all configurations and spit a error report if there is something it doesn't like? And then you just run the upgrade program on VM Pro as well?

The ipo is super easy .. You just download the new manager click upgrade and it does it for you.

The vmpro you need to backup the call flows , then run the setup.exe for the new vm pro. It will do the rest for you basically
