IPO 500, 5420 and EU24, just got :

Hello tek-tippers

• I have fetch and read every thread about eu24, but every thing I get is documentation of 2006 or older related to 406, or 24XX phones.
• I have connected everything in the right order so that’s the expansion unit is active but it doesn’t shows anything apart from “:”
• I have not yet used the brute-force method of erasing user, rebooting the machine, unplug the phone and eu24, later recreate the user, rebooting again, and later plug the phone and eu24. but I would like to check if I’m missing something at config.
• I’m sending you the screenshot with the buttons configured with “user” and “groups”

Peter,

The quotes "name" are set automatically on version 4 when using the pulldown menu.

Make sure the cable from the powersupply to the 5420 is a 8-wire patchcable. Power is supplied via pin's 7&8. But I think this must be ok the EU is showing | in the middle.

I've never had any problems with the 24EU (apart from customers moving the phone and EU and forgetting the powerblock under the desk), but I've seen a couple of messages on this forum.
Since the search function is working finally (Thanks TT) maybe you could locate these messages and their solutions.

Never noticed the "" :)

Program a SelfAdministor button on the 5420 with as action code 1 on button 24.
Then the user can programm all buttons.

It'll be the cable!! hahahha. I've done this and looked like a dork trying to make it work with a 2 wire lead!!
In other words, use the 8 wire leads that came with it, and you'll be fine.. I was in too much of a hurry. Less haste more speed.
Let us know, I'm sure i'm not the only one who's done this.. ay Escorthosis? : )

Cheers,

Chris

Well, I'll try again wih that, since i'm desperate enough
no advice is rejected...

the question is, the supplied 8 wire cable will be between the wall (lan pbx) and the POE source, or between the POE source and the Phone, (or even between phone and unit), is it necessary for all the three cables to be wired the same?

that would mean that the supplied cable is not wired the standard Ethernet "straight" cable?

two wire cable from the wall to the PSU, CAT 5 cable from PSU to the phone, special eight wire cable from the phone to the EU24.

checkout marketingtools.avaya.com/knowledgebase and goto the Installation, IP Office, then section F for EU24.
Has a good wee diagram.
Power is on pins 7 & 8 i think, although no pinouts on that page.. so 2 wire lead only going to give a signal on 4 & 5, with a big air gap on 7 & 8..

Cheers,

FYI soft reboots don't work on troublesome EU24s when attempting to get them to register ot a phone. They have all required a physical power off and on of the module or the main unit that the phone is physically connected to.

Goodluck!
