If you check the extn with SSA first you can see what is causing it, probably forwarding/follow me set as suggested, you can then cancel it with *00 and tell them what they had done wrong
its not uncommon that people trying to dial 0800 sometimes dial *0800 causing DND to come on - just as an example - so when customers say - how is it possible they set DND, thats my standard line ;-)
Happens to me all the time as well, which is why I usually delete all the short codes that are not actually being used, it saves a great deal of time later. If they need a feature, you just pop the code back on.
