Hi Guys,

I am looking to find a better way to connect to our customers remotely than via Dialup. This is mainly cost related so I am trying to see if it s possible to setup a basic VPN from the IPO to a draytek router. I am aware of the Avaya firewall and reseller version of the on-boarding process but we don't currently have the Avaya gateway.

If someone would be kind enough to put up a basic set of instructions on how the IPO needs to be set that would be AWESOME. I'm rubbish when it comes to VPNs :) The IPO is 8.1 and has full demo licenses

Just use port forwarding on the router but only set the IP Office to respond your IP/range, VPN is licenced on the IP Office... and sucks so less of a cost saving really :)

Why not just build some extra into your support contracts for dial in costs?

How much does it actually cost you? We use dial up all the time..... its useful because some customers don't always allow their switch internet access.

However, as Andy said, use Open ports on the Draytek and create a FW rule that allows only your IP to connect.

sorry the Draytek is at my end and i wont to build vpns between the Dryatek and all our supported customers. well on the ones that will let me. Sorry its monday and I went out last night.

The dial ups are costing us nearly £500 pounds a month.

From what I could see the IPO vpns are pap. but Iv been tasked with reducing the remote support costs. If you guys have any other remote access ideas I could use I would love to know them.

yeah we use central too. Looks like the powers that be will have to suck it and either buy the Avaya gateway or try and get a better rate on data calls.

Thanks for the help chaps

The Draytek would fall over running too many VPN's and you are bound to have customers on the same range which would break the use of multiple "always on" VPNs anyway. You need to use LogMeIn as Sean said or continue with the dial up thing, another alternative I have used is teach the customer how to pull the config off the system they email it to you, you change it and mail it back they load it back on....sorted...but long :)

Yeah thats very long and probably way to complicated for some of the customers.

Ill just have to pin them down on have a pc available for manager.

Team viewer as an alternative to Log me in ,it has a one off cost opposed to ongoing with log me in , you can even be cheeky and run it free if you are not hammering it , it gets arsy after a while in free mode and allows only 5 min connections then makes you disconnect for 1 min , the only disadvantage is you are stuck on the level you purchase, but so are your customers so no real issues there.

yeah we tried team viewer but didn't get on with it as much and we use logmein rescue as well so may as well just keep paying them.
