We are temporarily moving office during building works.

We have had cabling down to the new units at a distance of 73 metres.

I have seen the limitations regarding distance of expansion units on the older systems but does this still apply on the IP500.

If so is my only option to either move our existing control unit with us or get a new one and connect the two?

If connection is a viable option we would get an Avaya engineer but would like to know beforehand.

I don't believe having the expansion modules on more that 12 feet of cable is supported.

expansion modules connected to the IP500 Control unit can only use a 1M screened cable
expansion modules connected via the port expander module can use up-to a 2M screened cable

your options are as you suspect move the unit or network a 2nd system (this would require a VCM & Network licences so moving is probably the most sensible option)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Could we achieve it through a switch here and a switch on the remote site by passing traffic by tagging or point to point at either side?

No, they use a TDM bus not Ethernet. It's the same cable type but that's as far as the similarity goes :)

Not extending the expansion modules interconnect they are a proprietory 2mbit protocol not Ethernet.
there a no extenders available.

Your best option is a second IPO and a SCN.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

1 meter shielded CAT5 is the longest cable supported.

Thanks for all the responses we have decided to relocate the control unit.

Slightly off topic but do we need an additional license to register our new expansion unit or if not how do I add it to the system?

Add it to the system. I'm assuming a DS16/DS30
