I installed an IP500 with 9.1 software to replace an existing system. They have an existing message on hold device with the option of 8 or 600 ohm. I plugged an RCA to aux cable in and set the system to external music source but I am getting nothing from it. This is a brand new unit, so there was never a .wav file uploaded. Tone works, but nothing from external. I can put my test set on the aux plug and I can hear the message. I've tried both 8 and 600 settings.

Thanks in advance.

I assume you've rebooted the IPO, yeah? Can you plug anything else into the ipo and get sound, like your phone, or mp3 player? If no audio, then bad jack maybe. Or...you've plugged it into the wrong jack into the back (the relay plug is the same).
If none of that works, maybe try using an analog port for audio, easy enough to make the cable.

Should be 600 Ohm and so far (knock on wood)I never had a bad one.

I did reboot. I didn't know you could use an analog jack for music on hold.

Really
where on earth did you get your training?

The first stage of any period of instructions should be 'the naming of the parts'

The parts are already named, in fact they are labelled, that particular one say "Audio"!

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

my last training I had was 2003 and it was an IP403 with an instructor that was new to the IPO. All after that was learn as the new stuff comes out and starts working differently.
And of course reading the threads on TT :)
I bet there is new stuff I just don't know and care about.

I think he means he didn't know you could use an analog extension as an audio source. That feature hasn't been around that long and easily overlooked

I was certified and been installing IPO since 2.1. That is exactly what I meant, AACon.

You get update courses?
Seems there is no such thing here in north America because the companies are to cheap for that and don't see the value in it.

There used to be update courses on the Avaya University in the past but I haven't visited that site since my Avaya Trainer status was pulled back because they decided to provide "virtual class" online courses only for a rediculess amount of money.
So by now the only credential left is "not certified AT ALL" and I really don't care about that.

OK if he had missed the option for using an Analog extn as a MOH I could see how that could be done although I usually try to read the release notes for each new major release (especially the new features section).

Trained on V1.0 (as an upgrade to Network Alchemy) & then nothing until l server edition V9.1 (tried to get an upgrade @ 3.0 but Avaya said "Don't be silly you field trialed it & know more than the trainers" :) )

Am actually looking to get re-certified after the new year. Just went out on my own so I need certification to become a partner.

ok, so I tried a different source and a different cord. I can finally hear it, but just barely at 600 ohm, so it's getting to the system. Can't hear anything at 8 ohm. It's very loud coming out of the speaker of the moh unit. Is there an amplifier or any other solutions anyone has had success with?

Not sure I would recommend it. Looks like a straight power amp that would typically have a 4 ohm output. You would need a preamp, but by the time you pay for that you might as well replace the MOH device. Never really had a problem with the premier line.

Let some music run on your mobile phone and plug that into it. If it doesn't work the port is busted or the cable but like budbyrd I never had issues with the port itself.
If the port is busted try the analog extension port as MoH entry.
