Hello everyone,
Can you please tell me what kind of trunk card should I use on a IP406 V2 to use a BT (UK) Landline on it ?

Thank you very much,

It depends on what you think of a land line?
This is not a common term in Europe.

ATM is for analog but hardly used overhere.
BRI is for ISDN2
PRI is for ISDN30

But the 406 is end of sale for a while already and those card are end of sale too so if you need one you need to find a second hand card.
Are you from the US as cards from the US are different so cannot be used.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thank you for your reply.
I was referring to a normal phone line in United Kingdom.
On the same line is the phone line and a Adsl modem.
Is it possible to have this type of line in to IP406?
Thank you

Peter was politely trying to tel you that there are a number of types of "Normal" Phone line.

for your description you are obviously referring to an ANALOG (AKS POTS) line.

based on the fact that you needed help to identify the line type I would strongly suggest you refer the rest of your requirement to a competent maintainer.

Thank you,
I live in UK and as you probably know already there is no competent maintainers around ....
I try to set up this unit more for self learning purpose and not for lucrative matter.
You said 'a number of types for normal phone line' ... can you be more specific ? I know for sure from the provider that is a PSTN 'normal' line .. is all that they tell me (not because they won't but because they are very competent ...
How can I find out what 'type' is my normal line ?

Thank you in advance for your time

I can assure you there are competent maintainers around in the UK ( & quite a few not-so-competent ones as well :-( ).

I work for a very large one myself and HairlessSupportMonkey works for another (Tek-Tips Rules prevent me from naming them).

if you are trying to learn then the best place to start is with an Avaya training course although this will not go into detail on basic telephony

There is no such thing as a "normal" line, like saying to someone "I just have a normal car, can you fix it?"

Analogue lines are the most common (they may say normal due to this) as they are what you have in your house and carry your broadband, some businesses have these but they aren't ideal as such.

ISDN2 lines are digital lines (mainly for smaller businesses) and provide 2 channels (2 calls) per circuit but also have line signalling so trunk to trunk transfer is better and reliable disconnection, also better speech quality (these don't carry BBand in UK).

ISDN30 are digital lines as above but can provide up to 30 channels per line (these don't carry BBand in UK).

SIP trunks are "lines" provided over your broadband/internet connection and carry voice as data via the internet either to another SIP endpoint or breakout to the PSTN via your provider.

Right,

Thank you for the advice guys really really helpful.
When I say 'normal' line i was referring to a normal phone/broadband line and not a leased/dedicated line
From what you tell me, the conclusion is that the IP406 needs a ATM card.
I have one PRI card in slot one on the unit and a ATM4 UNI card witch is not fitted.
Will it work to put it in slot 2 with the PRI in slot 1 or must be installed as a single trunk card ?

Thank you very much
