I have a customer who is going to buy an IP Office to replace a 15 year old Magix for about 70 users. He currently has one site and will probably always have one site. There are a few managing partners who could possibly use connectivity from a home office - no more than 3 or 4. Out of habit I guess I mainly use digital phones. The IT guy here - who I have known forever and would consider a friend - really seems to want a reason to use IP phones. Generally, with a new system in one site, which is better? Is there any advantage to going IP for everyone vs. a mix of digital and IP? Just looking for opinions...

I think IP can be cheaper when there is already a good network.
When you already need 3 or 4 home workers then you need IP phones anyway.
A DS30 will cost around $3000 each and you still need the phones.

The answer to your question is that neither solution is any better or worse than the other

I do not believe it is aver a straight choice of IP Vs TDM & would always advise "use the right tool for the right job"

this strikes me as using IP for the sake of IP rather than because their is a need, that just about sums up all of the problem sites I have ever seen.

Go ip get your network right and dhcp etc working it's a lot more flexible and easy to manage .

I think I agree with all the above.. this guy loves the idea of IP. I showed him an S8300 with 9650 phones (because it was close to him and where I was working at the time) at he is smitten with everything plugging into the switch. I also think the speakerphones on the 96xx phones are amazing - I am using a 1416 on my IP Office today to see how it compares. That alone would be the deciding factor if they are not comparable.
Which leads me to another ?? - Now that I am selling and installing more IP Offices, it seems that the choice of phones is overwhelming. I like the look of the 14/16/96xx family way better than the 54/56xx style, but am curious as to what you guys who have done way more of these than I have are seeing most of? I also think the 96xx just have something elegant about them as compared to the 16xx for the IP phones but maybe that's just me.

I find that the customer thinks that the 54xx/56xx series look cheap and bulky,and then they think same the same thing about the 14/16xx, the cheap part that is. I did have a few dtmf and speaker phone issue with the 14/16xx series in the early releases of 6.0, but it seems the later releases cured most of thos issues. I have not really had any complaints over the 95/96xx series! They seem to truely love them until they have to pay for them! It truely boils down to what kind of budget they have!

Have a love hate thing for the 14 and 16XX.
They are good if you are replacing a Keyphone system because people need the buttons and are used to them. But I hate paper labels
The 96/95 I personally think are to not suited to a SME all hands answering the phones way to hard to use.
