My client needs to upgrade to at least version 5.0 of the IP Office suite. Our PABX provider has put forward a quote of more than three grand because they say that an upgrade on V1 of the IP Office is no longer available. Can someone please confirm or deny that this is true? Is the software no longer available?

wouldn't surprise me
in which case Get an ADI upgrade license (version does not matter too much)
upgrade to at least V6.0

perform the ADI to PLDS migration.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Maybe he means you can't specifically get the R5 upgrade license. You can, however, get the R9.1 upgrade license and just go to R5 with ADI license.

Are these prices correct it feels excessive for a software upgrade?

174956 IPO 3rd Party 1 Endpoint License - 1 Pho 149.55
275631 IPO R9 - Essential Edition License - Inc 690.54
275669 IPO R9 - Upgrade License to R9 for 32+ U 695.95
dvinstalab Install/programming (2 part process) 660.00

$2,459.64

If your end goal is to secure a lower price for your client, then submit an RFP to several local Avaya Business Partners.

And remember that cheap can cost you :) If it sounds too good to be true...you know the rest.

but this is a technical forum like crumthwacket mentioned in not so many words and it is not meant to solicit anything.

Ok just checking. I know that a number of people said that the upgrade to 5.0 should be free. I just wanted to check on this change to Avaya's licensing program.

The upgrade would be free, not free is the technicians time to preform the upgrade

Joe, I agree it should not be free. However I understand there is no reprogramming required to upgrade to version 5. For me to perform effectively what I would call a firmware upgrade on a system and install a couple of licenses in a system I would feel like I was ripping off the client to charge more than $280. Perhaps that is just me.

It is just you. If you were capable of doing the upgrade you wouldn't be here you'd have just done it. We Avaya techs sped many hours, and many thousands of dollars on the proper training courses to be able to do this work. While it might be a "simple firmware upgrade" to you, you've also never been stuck at a customer until the wee hours of the morning trying to recover from a failed upgrade which is something I'll bet every tech on here has gone through. Want to gamble and try the upgrade yourself? Go for it and charge your client $280. Want peace of mind knowing that it will be done correctly and if things go wrong it is someone else on the hook and not you? Pay the price to have a professional do it. Also, it looks like the $660 they are charging you for programming is not just for the upgrade but also to configure the conference phone. Those phones are not plug and play, they do require some hands on time. At the end of the day you get exactly what you pay for. If you're not willing to pay then don't expect much.
