I have had some philosophical differences, or perhaps friendly debates with some in the field regarding the term “enterprise solution”. The term has baffled me for some time, I have struggled with the term’s definition, and am looking to some of the excellent minds in this space to help me answer this question.

If you are interested in reading what I have written, the question I have posed, your help is appreciated. Maybe some answers, or friendly debate will help clear things up.

The primary difference between the 2 products is the system capacity. They provide a very similar level of functionality. CM can grown to hundreds, or thousands of sites with thousands of extensions, the IP Office to 32 with 384.

The ipoffice is SMB
The enterprice solution are the communication manager or the integral enterprice (I55)

The other difference would be to provide a high availabilty fully redundant solution on the enterprise enviroment. This could be multiple cores in a clustered enviroment similar to a server farm. I do agree that SMB and SME customers have certainly become more demanding and do insist on having the same features you would expect on an enterprise solution. The solution for me unfortunately in this current climate comes down to price rather than best fit. The lines are extremely blurred in the Avaya camp when it comes to the IP Office and the Multivantage product becuase there is such a big overlap.
