Avaya will introduce a Linux version of IP Office 8 ( although that is planned ).
BUT... it will only be available on a HP or DELL server bought via a official HP / DELL reseller.

This means a new distribution channel for Avaya with NO telecom experience and expensive servers.

I am courious:
What is your opinion about this?

If it ain't dutch it ain't much

Intrigrant, i think you are joking!

1) Aura runs on the the same servers which can be bought without buying it from HP or Dell.
2) It is part of the Linux Apss DVD.

Maybe i can makeup some more but if they do then they are crazy.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

indeed - seems like no advantage to be had at all....

If HSM has pre-FT info he could check, if what I know about the R8 is correct intrigant is right about linux but the truth is substancially different.

Im afraid my accesses to information like that is a covert operation and only come about via means unknown to me......

Ill share as and when.... :)

I called Intrigrant and it is not a joke!!!
My opinion: they are crazy.

If you use the specs that CM need then it will cost €5000
When you need 100 IP phones then you need 100 * €50 = €5000

Then you already payed €10.000 euro and then you do not even have any phones yet.
What about spares?

holy shit......

even a splicecom runs on an embedded cpu - running linux and can support 500 IP phones.

Oh dear.........

I mean, to make sense, you would

1) Buy big beefy server. Lots of RAM, lots of Horsepower. - then:
2) Install VMWare or your virtualisation of choice.
3) Install your App server / IP Office
4) Install VM Pro - if Windows version required.
5) Install CCR or some other reporting package.
6) Install Windows XP / 7 for Management

One server in a single rack mount slot, with PoE switches for IP handsets, would make a stunning solution.

Because Avaya have a load of enterprise clients that (for reasons I don't understand) pay crazy amounts for CM/Aura gear, they think the SME market will do that same. Nobody will buy it until they see sense :)

It is a non-sense, who would choose that solution ? It's out of the sme market, I suppose the real intention is creating a more powerful branch edition for the CM.

thats what the plan is - Aura Branch not IP Office.

Another reason why they should not so this.
You cannot vitalize it if it already on the server.

vitalize it - i like it..... is that like invigorating it?

No more comments on this?
I really think it sucks big time.
I rather see that Avaya states that you must meet the specs otherwise no support then being forced to buy the hardware including the software on it.
