IP Office rel 8 on Linux server

I notice a trend that small customers buy the IPO because you can buy it cheap and have an OK voicemail with it for free. Up until about 10 phones that is OK (digital phones not IP)
Then there is another trend with big customers that are almost outgrowing the IPO already to start and should go CM they buy it because it is way cheaper than CM and they don't care about the better redundancy of CM because sales tells them otherwise to get the sale of an IPO rather than no sale for a CM.
Buying the hardware (HP or Dell) just so that you can load a proprietary software of another brand on it is nuts and I agree with tlpeter that the specs need to be met and that's it.

Cisco CM linux based is now running fine under VMware, so I would not be surprise to see Linux for IPO as the first step toward virtualization . In the beginning Cisco did the same when it force you to buy HP and IBM in order to get support for its CM , now the requirement is much more relaxed. As a fact ,last Cisco CM demo system I attended to was done with laptop by its own sale force thru VMware.

it's like our little demo vm running on an Intel Atom with 1GB on a mini PC, not supported but still working well (at least for demo's)
It's all good until you have problems and Avaya telling you they don't troubleshoot because you don't have the proper hardware in place even if it is a completely different issue.

This is great news and gives us another sales opportunity. I am going to have to become more ohfay with linux.

Bummer we are an IBM house wonder how this works.

How about WHISPER PAGING feature on user buttons? Will it be available on this Rel?

No, it was not on R5, R6, R6.1 and R7 and it probably never will be.
Do a GRIP request if you want it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Actually it is available on R8 OhashiNoel, I tried telling you before but you didn't mail me when prompted :)

YAY! FINALLY!!!! Its gonna be great for our training at our Medical Office!

:)

You officially have me worried. What does it mean for us guys in the trenches in a faltering economy? Do I need to beef up on my Panasonic skills because IP Office is going to be un-affordable?

No you don't.
It will still be available on an IP500v1 or v2.
You only get an extra option to put it on.

@piethief: Thats why I love Avaya SMB Communication System. You can count on them :)

You can indeed, it is a great system with a lot of options.
Too bad that some people want stuff that is not in the system :)

Public knowledge from the "Big Think" presentation in May...

Coming sooner than later....a Voice Mail Pro expansion module;
Avaya Flare integration; web-based portal for OneX

R&D in the IP Office/SME space continues big time. More work for me!

I am waiting for the Linux card!
It makes my life much easier.

May be it will not strictly part of the R8 FT but they will introduce at the same time

Avaya SMB payed for my house

However they are falling behind the likes of Shortel and Open source.

Flare is nice idea but we need video first dont u think?

[cheers]

The Flare is way to expensive for IPO.
One Flare tablet cost as much as the whole IPO hardware....

If it ain't dutch it ain't much
