Has anyone ever had DNS issues cause phone quality issues between 2 IP Office systems over a 1 gig fiber connection?

should my IP office point to my local primary and secondary DNS servers, or should i use external google DNS servers(ex 8.8.8.8)

Also should i set static DNS entries on my local DNS server for my IP office systems?

I have a feeling i may have some local dns issues that may be causing call quality issues over my IP network.

Also, for my IP route information there is nothing entered for IP address, or IP Mask. Only Gateway IP address has my IP address that I setup for my Phone VLAN to route my vlan traffic.
Destination is LAN1, Metric is 0, and Proxy ARP is unchecked.

I am having phone call quality issues between 2 ip office systems connected over a 1 gig fiber connection. I believe the issues clear up after i restart my local dns server. (The DNS server is restarted due to another totally separate issue, but i found that the call quality clears up when the restart is performed)

Also am having AVAYA-SSL_VPN errors within SYSTEM STATUS

Thanks

IP Office doesn't need DNS.
Best practices is to set it to your local DNS servers.

Thanks for the information.

So I am assuming that because DNS is really not needed, then any DNS issue i may have on my network should not cause any issue on my ip office phone system or phone vlan network.

I do have a DHCP server running on my primary DNS server. I have a scope setup for my PHONE VLAN 60 network.

This would all be fine and shouldn't cause any issues? correct?

Thanks again

The AVAYA-SSL_VPN error.
You must have IPOSS.
Avaya creates a VPN tunnel to your phone system for maintenance.
You get that error when the VPN tunnel drops.

I do have IPOSS.

Should I be concerned the the VPN tunnel keeps dropping?

would this be related to any issues on my network / internet connection, or firewall that i should check on.

Don't be concerned if the tunnel drops. From my experience it is not used even if you register the system and create the tunnel. Just disable the tunnel. If Avaya tells you they need it you can enable it again.

It certainly does! If you are using SIP trunks you are definitely using DNS.
