I just upgraded to IP Office version 8 from version 5. Now my 5420 reception phone doesn't work. It says on the screen "Incompatible system" When I unplug the phone and plug it back in it just says "Please wait".

Do the 5420 phones not work IPO 8?

Thank you.

In the manager there is a 'Receptionist' check box, checking that does not work.

Alex, you are totally missing it!
The phone needs to upgrade.
Receptionist has nothing to do with it.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I have 5410 phones that work just fine. How do I upgrade the 5420 phone?

Alex this works for 54x0;

NoUser User Source Numbers
The following source numbers can also be used on the Source Numbers tab of the NoUser user. These affect all users on the system. Note that changes to these source numbers require a reboot of the system to become effective.

· ALLOW_5410_UPGRADES Software level - 4.1 Q1 2008 Maintenance Release+.
Previously the only control over the upgrading of 5410 phones was controlled by the use of the turn_on.bat and turn_off.bat batch files installed with the IP Office Manager application. Now in addition this option must be present for 5410 phones to update their firmware. Refer to the IP Office Installation manual for full details.

This seems to be a common issue with 5420s lately.. Here's what I would do:

Open Manager and set the Phone file server type to Manager and the manager IP address to the PC that Manager is running on. In File -> Preferences, make sure "Enable BootP and TFTP" is checked, and in the Directories tab, the binary files directory is set to the one that Manager is in (C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager).

Dan,

This is normal, you need to upgrade 54X0 phones in order to make them work. If you don't add the settings like above then you will get issues. Read the docs or the FAQs from above.

Emudan, this is not a common issue!
It is an issue with a lack of knowledge.
But it happens to anyone once in a while.

According to the tech bulletin it looks like the 54xx series phones are not supported on R.8. check out page 71 of the R.8 GA tech bulletin.

And where are you reading that Luqman????

Al it says is they must be release 6 firmware. But that has been the case for a few releases now.

I love posts like this. The OP obviously didn't get someone in to do this work, so I wonder what else has been missed.
Then, other people chime in with utter rubbish. and thats just Peter and Bas!!!!!!! :)

Merry Xmas

there is a silly thing in manager now (from 7) that if you have the working directories the same it suggests you shouldnt with a warning, but if you dont and plan to use manager for your tftp server, the files just wont upload and this is been the same for as long as I can recall......
