Hi We have an IP500 running version 4.2. I am having issues with TFTP. The IP Office is unable to create any files on the TFTP server. I need the system to create the nasystem files in specific the who_is files which I need to get a expansion module up and running (but thats a diffrent poblem).

I am not using the IP Manager TFTP service, I have tried various TFTP servers all showing the same problem. All timing out or comunication error. I have tested with a TFTP client from another pc to the TFTP server and I can send and recive with out any problems.

I am currently out of any support contracts and do not have access to the Avaya site.

Would really appreciate any issues as I currently have half my phones down and urgently need to get this back up and running.

the IP500 does not create any files as far as I know.

You really need somebody on site as this needs somebody seeing what is going on.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I can see in the logs that it is trying to put file associated nasystem. if it does not then where am I meant ot get the who_is and other files related to the nasystem as I currently do not have this anywhere?

So what is your exact problem, what is the issue? do you have an expansion module that has a blinking green, or amber, or red light? Is that why half your phones are down? What model phones are down?

what is the function of the who_is file

Hi There, Currently we have an expansion module that has a red light and when I connect via a DTE connection is keeps saying TFTP Poll error. I have read reports about the Avaya Manager not being the best for TFTP as it sometimes reports a file missing when its not.

I have setup an seperate TFTP server (i have tried several applications) put the BIN files in the root of the TFTP. Turned off TFTP in the avaya manager and set the TFTP server to my new TFTP server. When booting the IP 500 an dwathcing the logs via SysMonitor it looks like its creating the nasystem files (details about nasystem and who_is can be found at
I can put and pull a file in from a local PC with out a problem.

does manager see the expansion module? if so do an upgrade to this module, the tftp address should be the same ipaddress as manager

have you tried to do a reboot, most likely you have but still need to ask this question, also try a different expansion port on the back of the 500

the expansion gets the firmware from the IPO, if you have a V@ it takes them from the SD card if you have a V1 then just setup the manager as TFTP server (ensure it is turned on in the settings) and set the working directory to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\ or C:\Program Files\Avaya\IP Office\Manager\
make sure there is no other application using the TFTP port on the PC otherwise Manager will not activate its TFTP server part.

in the system settings of the IPO make the Phone FIle Server Type: Manager (if 4.2 has that option can't remember)

the expansion unit will not get the bin files it needs from any other source but the IPO and the IPO just relays it.

I have rebooted and tried a different port. Should have added that

THank you I have tried that process but still not having much luck. i am using a v1 system. Has anyone got this system if so can they check there TFTP server director and confirm if they have a nasystem folder and if it has any files in it?

Use manager as tftp server.
This is the easiest way now.

do not rule out a hardware issue here, replace it and save yourself some headaches!

i use pumpkin tftp. you need to set it up to allow get/put from all ips on the subnet that your working on, also tell the ipo under the system tab where the tftp server is. when i have issues with manager/sd tftp this little server always does the trick for me.

Really odd thing now. I have changed the TFTP IP address in the IPO abd rebooted but iit is still trying to contact the old TFTP? which is not running

Expansion modules don't just go off for no reason and even if it did it would usually flash green, if it's red it's more than likely faulty which is why it went off in the first place, this isn't just a TFTP issue....:)

as in my previous post; you most likely have a hardware issue here, replace and be done with it.
