Hi there,

I'm trying to have a solutions for some problems with an Ip Office 412 5.0. A month ago, this IP Office was upgraded to 5.0, since then when there is a high trafic the quality of the voice is bad and the only solution es to reset de IP Office. The customer has to reset it every day.

This IP Office has 3 PRIs, 1 to a public Network, one to call cell phones, and one for comunication with another PBX. It has 220 IP Phones, these phones are spread all over the country for agencys.

The costumer has made an analysis of the trafic on the LAN port of IP Office, and has seen that when the trafic is high the packets are slow. I've read that this port is Half Duplex, this can be a problem?, maybe is slower?, maybe there is to many IP Phones?, but the manual says that this PBX can have 360 Phones.

We are thinking about reinstal the software or in the worst case change the hardware, but it is expensive...

What do you think?

Thanks.

The issue will be with the network when the traffic is high not the IP Office, pc's will not notice and they can resend data packets and delay doesn't matter, you can't resend voice packets and delay gives quality issues too, they need to set up VLAN's and QoS on the network and make sure the port on the switch is also fixed to half duplex. That should sort out the quality issues :)

Upgraded to which 5.0 version?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I'm not sure wich was the old version, I'm asking the customer for both, the VLANs and the old version. I'll tell you soon. Thank you!

I did not ask for the oldversion but that is ok too.
What version is it on now?
5.0 has about 7 releases.

Oh, I see. I didn't know :(. Can be 5.0 (26)? I found it in the configuration.

Ok that is the latest 5.0
Wath was the reason for this upgrade?

I really don't know, it was made with another provider. The came to us, after a month, when the support from the other provided finished. They want to maintain their licenses of contact center and Voicemail Pro (and others), for that reason the upgrade was to 5.0, not 6.1.

It's posible that the 5.0 does not work well in this hardware? The manual says 6.0 work ok in this hardware but...

Also they said to me that before the upgrade everything was ok.

It all sounds as bollocks to me :)
That provider has no clue what they are doing at all.
Why upgrade without any good reason?

For the money I guess :S, let me ask the customer, and I'll tell you.
Maybe we can downgrade the PBX, uh?

Could you check the switch port where the IPO is connected to, that port need to set to 100Mb Half duplex. If it's set to auto or 100Mb Full you could also get these problems.

Ok, the reason to upgrade the PBX is the support for the 16XX phones, the older version does not support those phones. Also I've ask for the VLAN's, all is in order. And the port of the switch too, is in Half duplex.

But, now that I'm talking with the person who is the responsible for the PBX, he says to me that there was some problems before the upgrade too, not only for the upgrade. He wants to change the hardware :S.

The half duplex can be the reason por the problems?, they have 220 IP Phones and VMpro, Phone manager in several PCs and Contact center...

No just the that come from IPO to the switch, so 1 or 2. Depending on if you just use the LAN or both ports.

1600l phone is a reason indeed.
If you are going to swap hardware then you perhaps better invest in an IP500v2

The IP400 range does not go any higher then 6.1
Also 5.0 is not supported anymore so these issues can not be raised to Avaya.

Hmmm....getting a bit drunk i think..LOL

No just the one that comes from IPO and that goes to the switch, so thats 1 or 2 port. Depending on if you just use the LAN or both ports.

Interesting, I can't go to Avaya with 5.0... this a reason to buy the 6.0 or 7.0, with 500v2 of course...

If both ports are in the same LAN they work togheter?, they balance the data? or should be working only one?

Excuse me, I started with IP Office with 6.0 :S, I dont know much about the older releases.
