Hi,

We have an IP Office 406 v1 3.2(17). I recently tried to upgrade it to 61.

When I go through the process it says that 61 is available, I run the upgrade and it says it has upgraded successfully but remains at 3.2 (17).

Are there any steps i'm missing?

Thanks in advance

If by 61 you mean version 4.1 it will not install on a 406 Version 1 because of memory size but Avaya will swap the unit for free.

No it's 3.2 but i wasn't aware that Avaya will swap the unit for free...

You don't need to swap this unit. You are not going past 3.2. you are going to 3.2(61).

Have you done this without Validate ticked in the Upgrade Wiz???

No. I figured it would need Validate checked. Do you think thats the cause of it??

I can give it a go at the weekend...

STOP. There is a reason for validate. Don't uncheck unless you have the Technical bulletin for latest 3.2 maintenance release in your hands fully read, a back copy of the config confirmed on a safe PC. A car ready fueled to go to the site. DTE cable. Lots of practice on DTE on a spare old system, and a copy of the old software bin files for when you give up and downgrade.

Gregos,

I'don't think Avaya will swap a 406V1. They do swap 406V2 with a memory of 16Mb instead of the pcs7+ 64Mb.

Correctamondo, they will only do the older version 2's without enough memory.

Are you using the correct Manager and Upgrade wizard to upgrade to 3.2 61 ie the one from the 3.2 61 admin CD.

Still... pbisty has a problem here!

I think the advise of sizbut is the best here, either be well prepared or find someone who is experienced to help you out or at least can help you if you fail.

Is this one of the ones that do an offline upgrade possibly??? I haven't come accross one.

The IP Office manager will prompt you if an offline upgrade is required. If that is the case, its best to Cancel initially and only go ahead when you have verfieid a backup of the config and a set of the old software just in case.

Thanks for the advice fellas

jamie77 - yes it is an offline upgrade.

TheProvider - I have upgraded the Manager software to 3.2 61

I have managed to restore this phone system once before after a 'bad' upgrade although it took a while. Just need to find the notes i have for it.

Is there a reason for this upgrade??

Are you having problme swith 3.2(17)???

No major problem with it really. We have an issue with 2 4610 IP phones in New York that are connected to London (through dedicated pipe). For some reason the speakerphone on these phones do not work, yet they worked fine when we had them in London before we shipped them out there!?!

Figured upgrading the IP Office might resolve the issue

Just for information

An offline upgrade is needed when the software is too big to put it on.
The offline upgrade removes all the software and puts in the new one
An online upgrade removes not all and puts in the new software
With an online upgrad ethe system keeps working untill it reboots
With a offline upgrade the system stops working when the upgrade begins
An offline upgrade is the same as going in to the system with DTE and doing an at -> at-debug -> upgrade
If you are knowing what you do and have the right equiptment and experience it is not a problem
I just did an upgrade/downgrade 4 times with the DTE port

It's also worth mentioning that if the IPO goes into offline mode and doesn't receive the new files. It will automatically reboot after 15 mins and will be in normal mode again (although not upgraded but on the old software version).
