HELP, IP 401 KEEPS CYCLYING, LIGHT FLASHING ON AND OFF,THE LAN PORTS ARE NOT RESPONDING. DTE PORT IS CYCLING:

DONE THE ESCAPE MANY TIME, ITS STIL RECYCLING , HOWEVER IF I TYPE AT-X REAL FAST BETWEEN THE CYCLE,I GET THE ALL SECTOR ERASE BUT IT GOES BACK TO CYCLING AND THE LAN PORTS ARE STILL NOT RESPONDING.

The lan port will stay down
It will only start working when your rebooting is solved !!!

Try if this works (after you have a different terminal program)

Even though your LAN is down I would check the following

LAN connected to IPO and set to something like 192.168.42.10
BOOTP record in Manager for system pointing at correct .bin

Just for laughs!! Hell it might even help.

Check the TFTP log see if anything is happening.

I am using smart term. I displayed whats happening. I dont get enough time to type more than 5 characters between cycling.

if it will not stay in the monitor without rebooting I would say the fault is terminal.
you will need to replace the IPO

I would agree with IPGuru if you can't halt the rebooting you don't stand much chance.

I would give it five mins pressing esc to try stop it and then bin it!

Do you have any cards added to this. Like a BRI or PCMCIA???

If so take them out and give it one last go. Unplug any phones also (if you haven't already!)

I had it before and got it back working (still does)

Type in this order

AT-X2

AT-X3

AT-X

It does not matter if it reboots right after a AT-X2 or whatever you type
After that reboot just type the next code

I had a problem like that which was due to a defective ATM-4 card. If it was removed first, the system would stay up to complete the nvram erase.
