I need a little help. I have a customer that wants the following:

About 20 users call out only on 9 via outbound Line Group 1.

5 users call out only on 8 via outbound Line Group 3.

Currently short codes are in place allowing all users to call out on either 8 or 9. The customer wants this restricted to prevent one group from using the others outbound for long distance calls

I think the best fix is:
eliminate the Short Codes for 8 and 9
then create a User Restriction called "Dial on 8", with the appropriate short codes
then create a User Restriction called "Dial on 9", with the appropriate short codes
Choose the User Restriction from the drop down for each user.

Is this right?

That is the best way to do.

You can also have both parties call out using the 9

OK. Thank you. I have that all set up on a memory stick and will try it out later this week.

OK, well it worked but I got a trouble report.

It seems that an individual has call forwarding turned on, and with the changes I made to add user restrictions, if you call the extension internally you get forwarded correctly. But if you call the DID for that individual, you go into voicemail.

I tried a few changes and then reverted back to the set up as it was before i put in the user restrictions. Then it is just the opposite, DID gets forwarded, but dialing the extension internally goes to voicemail.

Any suggestions to keep the user restrictions and still allow DID to be forwarded?

Thanks

Check the ICR, if the "Line Group ID" is correct.

I checked the ICR, Line Gr 1 for that, which is what the restriction was set to.

I then checked the Forwarding Short Code and that was set for Line Gr 0.

When I try to change that to Line Gr 1 it reverts back to 0.

I assumed it was associated with this originally so I revised the forwarding SC from:

*FWD0 TN 91xxxxxxxxx=91xxxxxxxxxx Line Gr 0
to
*FWD1 TN 91xxxxxxxxx=91xxxxxxxxxx Line Gr 1

This had no effect.

As you can tell, i don't know much about this but I always get near it and then can't nail it down.

Your IP Office has version 3.0.xx
I think you try upgrading to 3.2(69) or better to 5.0(8).
The last depends on the memory of the IP400
3.0 is very old 5/6 years I think

i read somewhere that forwarding always uses line group 0.

you could try setting a shortcode using the line id you want and forwarding to that?

See what my brain does when it's not thinking about phones.

OK, one thing I noticed...

The short codes I mentioned for forwarding were on the individual phone.

I just noticed a short code for the system that is as follows:
#*07*N# TN N Forward Call Line Gr 0

Does this need to be modified to Line Gr 1 ?

Yep, *07*Number# is the normal shortcode, you can send it to different Line ID's

Forwarding always follows System shortcodes not user shortcodes, so changing the above should work :)

Great!

Now on to the next problem... If you look back to the beginning of this thread...

I moved the outbound dialing prefix from system short codes to user restriction short codes, because there are two companies working on the same system, to allow dialing out on Line Gr 1 by dialing 9, and dialing out on Line Gr 3 by dialing 8.

Currently, the only one requesting to have calls forwarded is in the Line Gr 1 part of the company. If I fix the #*7Number# to Line Gr 1, won't that make both companies dial out on Line Gr 1 for forwarded calls?

If so, any suggestions to avoid that complication?

Let the people who dial out on the 8 use

#*7*Number# and the other use *#7*Number#
