We have an opportunity to install IP DECT on an IP Office. Documentation seems to read like it is no problem at all.

What do people who have actually installed IP DECT think? What gotchas do I need to consider while figuring install time?

Thanks,
Frank

Its not difficult, just LOTS of steps. We have deployed local IP DECT as well as a remote IP DECT and they work well. I dont really care for the 3711 phones though.

I have it set up in my house on my demo system. took like 1hr the first time to set up and get running. Wasnt too bad.

Go for Pre-licensed base stations if possible, less hassle!!

ACS - IP Office Implement

The license is the big pain, hence the switch to pre-licensed systems. Clear that hurdle and DECT is painless.

Step by Step:
- Create an IP Dect Line in IPO. It will automatically be numbered as number 240.
Gateway IP Address = The IP address that you will use on the ADMM base.

- Create”IP Dect Extension” and enter extension number, answer”yes” to the question if you would like to create an associated User.

- On the IPO Admin CD there is a folder called”IPDECT”. In this folder you will find OM_Configurator_1_x_x.jar, this is used to set the IP addresses on the base stations. Notice that you must have Java installed on your PC to be able to execute a jar file.
You will also find ADMM_RFP_1_x_x.tftp, copy this file to the Manager folder. Base stations will collect this file when they are powered on. Notice that the base stations always needs this file after every restart of the Dect system. This means that there always must be a Manager running (or another TFTP server) in the customer network.

- Start the Openmobility Configurator by clicking on the file
” OM_Configurator_1_x_x.jar”.
Type MAC address (find it on a label on the base station),
Use_local_cfg = 1
Ip = IP address which this base shall use.
Subnet = subnet
Siaddr = IP address to the PC that have the Manager running.
Boot_file = SW file which you have copied into the Manager folder.
Ommip1 = The base station that will act as ADMM (master base)
Click on Send when all entries are made.
Restart the ADMM base.

- Now the base station has a fixed IP address and has collected is software via TFTP from the Manager PC.
Open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address of your ADMM.
Log in using”craft” as user name and”crftpw” as password.

- Go to Licensing
Enter the information about your licenses, depending on how many base stations you will use. You should have received the licenses in an envelop. It is stated which base/bases that should act as license base/bases.

- Go to System Settings.
Give the system a name. Enter an Authentication Code; this code will be used when you later will register the handsets.
Enter Time and Date. Notice that the IP Dect system will loose the time and date settings after every restart of the system. Unless you add a Timeserver setting on ADMM

- Go to IP Regions and choose configure.
Your IP Dect system is one IP Region, even if you have base stations on another physical location.

- Go to IP DECT Base Stations and choose New
Type in MAC address and IP Region. You define which of the base stations that will”Act as Master during Startup”.
Dect Cluster = every base that are able to”see” all the other bases, it could be directly or via other bases, are one Cluster. If you have some Bases on other physical location then these bases are Cluster number 2.

- Go to IP Trunks and choose New
Enter a name, enter IP address to IPO. Enter IP Region 1.

- Go to IP DECT Handsets to add all the handsets. Choose New
Choose Auto on Type. It will later be automatically changed to for example Avaya 3711.
Enter Name and User number.
Enter IPEI cod which you will find on a label underneath the battery, or even easier by pressing Menu, System and IPEI on your handset.

- You have to activate subscription before you are able to subscribe handsets. This is done by choosing “Subscribe”.

Use Dectnetmonitor after installation to be able to see that all the base stations are able to synch. See page 77 in ”ip_dect_install.pdf ”.

We found a little quirk the other day, I don't know if it's a funny batch af handsets or what. When you try to subscribe the handset if you follow the correct procedure from the manual and enter the Park number the 3711 will just hang at "Please Wait" or whatever it says. However if you turn the handset off after entering it's details in the ADMM. And turn back on try again without entering the Park number it will register. If you try registering without the Park number straight away that also does not work, it only worked if you turned off and on midway! Weird....antone else seen this?

amriddle - The only problem I have had with registering handsets have been when there has been to much other Dect in the air. And you can see that with Dectnetmonitor.

No this was in house programming, only the one IP Dect base station and we are in the middle of nowhere with no other buildings for miles. It's not the first time we have set one up and this is the only time this has arisen. I think it must be the handsets. As some old Kirk handests we had lying around would register no problem.

Hey guys.

I really need some help here. I'm not a telecom or even a network guy but i got thrown into a IPO install and have frequently found myself floundering. Most stuff i have figured out just by searching hundreds of posts but now i'm stuck on something that i know is really easy and i'm just missing.

I can't find the MAC address on the bottom of my 3810 base station. There are a number of 12 character codes but none look like your typical MAC addresses and none seem to work in the configuration program.

Any thoughts would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the 3810 phone with charger or do you mean the ipdect base station ?

A 3810 digital (DS) phone is not ipbased and needs an digital (DS) port

If the phone has an IPUI code (dect) then you can connect it to an ipdect solution
