Hi,

I am rather new into system administrator for IP Office 500, but I have an old Avaya IP500 PBX (Avaya ID 700417207). It has been running without problems for years. Yesterday however it was powered off shortly and did not want to get up again. My assumption is that there is a problem with the PSU (this has happened also once in 2015).

1) Can I safely buy a second hand chassis with PSU (also Avaya ID 700417207) and swap all the boards from the old IP500 into the new chassis? The old IP 500 system is a "IP 500 SYSTEM UNIT - PCS 06". Can I also use a chassic IP500 v2 ((Avaya ID 700476005)?

2) I have opened the case of the old "IP 500 SYSTEM UNIT" and had a look at the PSU. If I connect power only a LED named DS1 blinks shortly. Nothing else happens. There is also a fuse on the PSU. Maybe that is broken? Can I replace that? How to see if the fuse is broken?

Any help appreciated. Would be nice to get this unit back up and running. Thanks!

Best regards,

Rene

Indeed broken power supply.

Most easy is get an IPO500V2 and swap the power supply.

But you can also replace the whole unit, but then you need to load the correct firmware, swap the licenses and load the configuration.

But since it's a different unit, you cannot load the config file directly, but you need to export and import the various pieces of the configuration manually.

In other words, get a buseniss partner..

I advise you to either buy a used IP 500v2 and use that PSU for your IP 500v1.
They are 100% compatible but the newer PSUs are a lot better/reliable.
If you use the system for your company a upgrade to a new IP500v2 is to consider but it is a task which best can be done by a reliable partner.
Reffering to your name my guess is that you are NL located where you can find enough good partners.
If you consider this then call several partners for a quote, it is worth the efford.
I am dutch but I work for a belgium located partner in the Antwerp region and we have loads of used IP500v1 & IP500v2 units on stock.

OK. I intend to try/fix this myself (I consider a good exercise to get into this business: PBXs, VOIP, telephony)). I have ordered a new chassis + PSU. What Belgium company you are working for (might be useful in future for further spare parts)?

Thanks for the answers!

BR, Rene

Google with "telefooncentrales, voip en telefonie voor de KMO antwerpen" and the first match on a belgium company is the one.
I do not do advertising here, if you want to know any specific make a call.
Remeber, there are a lot more AVAYA business partners but we have a long history and good knowledge of the IP Office.

I still wonder if you are Dutch or Belgium :)
If you are Dutch them Google and use dordrecht :)
I worked with intrigrant and learned from him.
We where a good team together i think.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I am from the Netherlands (Enschede). We will see how I progress learning Avaya products. First the new PSU has to arrive.

Best regards, Rene

Hi,

thanks for the support. I swapped the PSU and my IP 500 now works like a charm again :). Also I have reset the security passwords back to factory default to regain administrative rights on my IP 500 using a serial cable/PUTTY on the DTE port. Of course I have changed now passwords to non-system defaults passwords. I created a backup of my config. And now it will be time to learn about programming this PBX: adding a SIP trunk, configure buttons on the IP phones, change the IP address of the PBX, configure voice mails, etc.

Best regards,

Rene
