I get Invalid Page Faults when trying to run about 10 different programs. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. I think it might have something to do with me buying a 40gig 7200rpm HDD and 256MB ram... since I loaded the hdd with the os and then tried installing these programs, I could run them...

help???

tezza,
We need more information to help you. What programs and the exact error messages you are recieving. Also, your system specs.
Please post the added information. If you are getting Invalid Page faults, you can make a log and keep track of the errors. Then copy and paste them into a post.
To make a fault.log the easiest thing to do is use TWEAKUI
Go to the Paranoia Tab and at the bottom of the page check the Box marked Log Application errors to Faultlog.txt

If you get any Fatal Errors, those will not be logged and therefore, please copy those and post too.
If you don't have Tweakui, you can Download it here

If you have Win98, you can go to start/run and enter drwatson and doc will pop up and give you a detailed explaination of what cause the fault. It's probably one single program running in the background that is causing problems with the 10 you know of.

Mosaic1,

It is an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 850Mhz, 393216MB PC133 RAM, Windows 98 Second Edition, 32MB Geforce 2MX, 40GIG 7200rpm Barracuda HDD, Pioneer 12x DVD Driver, C-Media PCI Audio Device, Realtek Network Card.

I am not a gamer. But am I correct that these are all games? How are they played please? Using a CD-- on the internet??

Yes they are all games for my son... he has to have the different CDs in to play them as well... are you getting any ideas??

Thanks
Tezza

It's odd that they seem to have problems within themselves. The game is causing an IVP in the game.exe.

How much RAM does your Computer have? Do you have the CDROM set to DMA?

I am fishing here. Maybe someone else has more knowledge in this area. But I would say look at your CD Drive and its settings. ALso Memory. Have you tested your RAM lately? If not you can go here and Download DocMemory. Run it and see.
Run nothing unnecessary in the background. Can you copy one of the CD's to disk and run the game from the Hard Drive? That would be a good way to see whether or not the problem lies in the transfer of information from the CD.

And the other side of that would be looking at your Hard drive. It's possible that you may have a problem because it is too fast. Does it have DMA set? Hopefully someone else wil come along and be able to advise you about what settings to look at. Hardware acceleration and read ahead etc.

Thanks for all your help Mosaic1,

He has 2 sticks a 128MB stick and a 256MB stick or RAM. And I don't think it is the DVD drive, cos I tried running it off the other cd drive on his computer and it did the same thing. Also DMA is not set on the hard drive. He was looking to upgrade to Windows XP anyway, would that help the problem at hand??
Thanks
Tezza

Try switching out the RAM> See if that is causing the problem.

This error occurs when there is an extra dplayerx.dll in your Windows/System file. Find the
extra copy of the file and delete it from the directory. It should fix the error.

regarding ROGUESPEAR

To prevent computer crashes and other complications (Run time errors) don't run Rogue Spear with the editor open in the background
One of them is in the when placing terrorists you MUST pick their model and Kit. The one the Editor gives you makes the game crash when starting the mission.
The second is concerning the MODS folder, it does NOT support mission.lst and r6_string_tables.txt. I truly apologize for these mistakes. I will make it up to you soon.
Larger maps with more objects tend to crash sometimes upon loading (fix by restarting editor)
The reason the mods folder was created was because in R6, many people mods interfere with each other. The problem was mostly with mission listing files. One would overwrite the other and then everything would go to hell, and nothing would work. Even thought it seems like a good idea, many people complain about some of the aspects of the way the mods folder handles somethings. Since you wont be doing any heavy modding for while, ill show you how you can use the mod folder to your advantage

Perhaps there is nothing wrong with your machine. I think there is every chance that it is the software and/or compatibility with your present setup..Just an opinion..

Good Luck

Thanks Smitee and Mosiac1,

I updated to Win 2000 and that sorted out alot of problems... might try some of the things that you said as well... thanks guys.

Well, just off the top of my head... Everything you get an error in happens to be something that kicks the video card into high gear. Another thing I see is a lot of heat. You've got a processor that is known for producing a lot of heat, a video card that produces a lot of heat, and you just installed a 7200rpm hotplate. Of course installing W2K wouldn't have fixed a heat problem (but it will make Star Trek really dark)

Nick

Nsidoni...
I did notice quite a lot of heat in there, so I got an extra two fans... bringing total up to about 6 of them. I also went and got Win XP, and that seems to have fixed up all problems... so far :)

Please help me I'm a guy from holland and I have red alert 2 . When I tried to start it up there was an error

The computer said that I've not got a progam calls ~df394b.tmp

One thing I noticed and now jump on every time I see it,as I had the problem myself, is you have too much ram for Win98.
I used to run with 512Mb of ram thinking it would improve performance, but all it did was give me a rash of seemingly random blue screens. After dropping to 256Mb, everything stabilized and has been that way ever since.(9 months, no crashes or blue screens.)
I suggest you do the same, in order to eliminate this as the cause. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

I've the same problem.
It's the safedisc protection of the games (i do have the originals) dplayerx.dll is part of safedisc.
I did a proper uninstall of swat 3 from sierra and a couple of days later I installed the game again and suddenly the error appeared....

Help i am Trying to get Worms world party to work and when I try to play it says Wwp has caused an error in ~DF394b.TMP. I have tried to reinstall on both a cdrw drive and a dvd drive nothing works and it is gettin very old can any one help

Okay im not sure about this situation myself, however i have tried to help friends install a game for there children and it is Tweenies - Ready To Play. (and no it definatly isnt for me)

Anyway...one thing im noticing is that it might be down to AMD processors, becasue everywhere i turn ppl that are having this problem tend to have AMD 850 as standard.

Please reply if any of you have similar.
