Hi,

I've edited my /etc/vfstab but seem to have made a mistake:-( As a result, the system won't boot and keeps looping as it tries to "resync filesystems".

Does anybody know of any other ways to interupt the boot sequence to get it back to the OK prompt other than ~. CTRL ] or stop A? (I'm using an ultra 5 and connecting through the tip command from another server.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm afraid that doesn't seem to be having any effect. Any other ideas?

Thanks

ALso, you probably want to

0k boot cdrom -s
...
fsck /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0
mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
cd /a
restore the backup of vfstab you took OR learn how to use ed/ex to modify the file
save the file out and reboot

Attach a Sun keyboard and do a Stop-A

Reboot the machine you are tipping from (as this will also send a break down the line.

However, if the ~# didn't work you are probably unable to send a break at that point whatever you do (the OS is stuck and cannot cope). Turn the key on the box and when the eeprom banner has come up and before the OS kicks in do the ~# then, and keep trying.

Thanks naggiman!

Rebooting the machine I was tipping from sent the break to get me back to the ok prompt.
