We are getting ready to install a second DTM in our existing BCM400 to allow for overflow onto a second PRI. We also need to change from a 2/6 DS30 to a 3/5 to allow more resources for IP phones. Our existing DTM is on slot 7. We currently show slot 3 and 4 unused - so our plan is to move the existing DTM to slot 3 and install the new DTM on slot 4. My questions are - will this work? and what configuration changes are needed in the BCM Element manager?

Thanks,
Graham

Yes that is possible. Install/Move the DTMs as prescribed. Just write down your setting for Bus 7 and move to Bus 3. After both PRIs are up and working, then complete 3/5 split.

Thanks,

Should I configure the new DTM the same as the existing one?
The settings currently are:
Trunk type: PRI
Protocol: NI-2
NSF Extension: None
B Channel Selection: Descending Sequential
Clock Source: Primary External

T1 Paramaters
CO Fail: TIA-547A
Interface Levels: ISDN
Framing: ESF
Line Coding: B8ZS
Internal CSU: (Checked)
CSU line build: 0 dB

We want the second one to function as an overflow/failover PRI.

Yes, copy the settings exactly, except clocking. It should be Secondary.

IF you do not have anything in buses 6 & 5 then those should be your PRI's, if you do, then:
Make your primary PRI as bus 4
Your secondary PRI as bus 3
With the BCM stations start at bus 2 and go up, trunks bus 7 and go down.

Hey Graham,
That second DTM never got installed?

Remember that the second PRI will not function as an overflow/failover PRI and both should be set to be in the same Pool. Then incoming calls will come in on the first channel of the first PRI and calling out will use the last channel of the second PRI.It much more flexible this way.

Thanks for the help guys. Tonight, we were able to switch the Primary DTM to bus4 - install a second DTM on bus3, changed from 2/6 to 3/5 and installed a RAID kit without any issue.
