when i start up my comp it says that i have to connect to the internet and enter the installation id.... i can't connect untill im at my desktop.... so is there a universal installation id that i could just put in?

Do you have some sort of Activation problem?

Is there any link on whatever ever screen you are getting to Activate via Online even though you are not at your Desktop?

Activation problems (and Activation itself) can be sorted out over the phone with Microsoft.

How to activate Windows XP

Windows XP Genuine Advantage Validation Issues (Windows XP)

This is an indicator that you have an activation problem for sure. When you first install Windows XP it goes through all of these prompts. The Installation ID is created based on the CD KEY you enter when installing the OS. For some reason that process looks like it never happened or the CD KEY is now invalid. There is no "universal key" that will bypass this. Just look for the Windows XP stick affixed to the outside of your computer and give Microsoft a call and they will help you get all of that sorted out and get you an installation ID so you can activate your OS and get through that.

ok they got it figured out..... now i have another problem ...i have no sound what so ever..... i think i need the driver...i looked on the hp site and it no where to be found...i gotta hp 752n with xp home edition.... any suggestions?????

Use this program to scan your machine, it will give you a lot of information, and an inventory of everything (hardware, software, updates, security etc.) on your computer.

Belarc Advisor:
Use the Sound Card details to go to the actual manufacturer and download the latest XP driver.

In Belarc Advisor, yes, but it will also list other Sound, video and game controllers in there like webcams etc.

You should be able to workout which is your Sound driver if you look in the Device Manager, where there maybe a yellow question mark indicating missing drivers?

this is what belarc said

Do you have a CD for your Motherboard that has the correct drivers on it?

no i got this comp from my friend who said that it was broke

If you are talking about the motherboard driver CD being damaged, then approaching the motherboard manufacturer for a replacement CD might be a solution?

she didnt give me the cd...all she gave me was the computer and there wasn't any sound

could i just buy a sound card or somethin like that and install that....would it work if thats possible!!?!?!!

If the original problem is driver related, then purchasing a new Sound Card is one way (not necessarily the most economic) of fixing the problem.

Depends on the system, but very early on when the machine is starting up, before the Windows XP logo shows, you hit a certain key (F1, F2, DEL are the common ones) and this should get you into the BIOS. If you have trouble, watch the screen and see if it tells you what key to hit to go into "Setup".

When there, look through the many options for a refernce to "Audio", (shows up in Peripheral Configuration in mine), and make sure it's not disabled.

It's kind of a longshot, but I mentioned checking the BIOS setting because I went crazy one day trying to figure out why a PC didn't have sound, until I realized it was disabled in BIOS.
