I have Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server. When i install either of the above operating systems, the first part of the install goes fine. Files are copied to hard drive, network settings and locations are set and installation seems to be fine.

However, when the installer hits the last screen where settings are saved, start menus are built etc, the system freezes. It happens again and again. It hangs at various stages of that screen aswell. Sometimes during "Saving settings" and sometimes during one of the other areas but it always hangs during that last screen. I have tried it on a different hard drive and the same thing happens. I have cleaned the cd and even tried another copy but the same thing happens. I can eventually install it but it seems to be by a process of brute force (keep trying till it works).

Has anyone had this problem before??

Any help would be very much appreciated.

It might be helpful to include some details of the system you are trying to load -- age, make & model, amount of RAM, etc. Is it possible you need to upgrade your BIOS?
