Interesting question. Is there a way to setup the IPO so that you do not require an ITSP for incoming? Let's say for instance that I purchased a line from someone (analog for reference) of 14135551212. Can I allow any SIP provider (that is not a sip provider currently) to call the number at my domain or IP? This is without going through an ITSP. I'm thinking of setting up a e164.org directly to my switch.

This technically would permit someone to dial my switch by SIP URI directly (abc@x.x.x.x or 100@x.x.x.x).
Take care,
Drew

Hi Drew,

I have read it 3 times and i still do not understand your question.
You want a SIP provider which isn't a SIP provider to assign you a trunk which isn't a trunk???

So what do you want :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Okay... Having had a chance to read this, perhaps I wasn't in my usual fine literary mood when I typed this. I think I can clarify.

I want an ITSP to be able to dial a SIP URI on my switch "directly" without the need of passing through another ITSP. Like dialing 100@domain.com or office@domain.com. This would resolve in DNS and be directly connected to my switch. There, that sounds a little better...

Take care,
Drew

no you can't on the IPoffice because it will not respond to unknown sip providers or IP addresses. to allow such a setup would be a very serious security vulnerability which I have seen on many other PBX systems. a hacker could for example send in invites or sip messages and using the replies be able to crack your account settings. you would also notice a lot of phantom calls with these invites. but, why would you even need to do this if you have a sip account with a provider - anyone can call user@sip.provider.ip to get to you anyway.

With that being said. I do intend on implementing a session border controller at some point. Just as an FYI. I guess you do need an IP address then in the trunk config.

the sbc would have to be set up as the sip provider IP in the IPO to accept calls. so depending on which sbc you use you might be able to create a special rule for xyz@ip to accept based on the user number being dialled. which sbc are you using?

I've been looking around at SBCs. I thought I read somewhere that Avaya was coming out with an Aura SBC for IPO. I've even looked at open source. Any suggestions?

depends what you want to achieve from the sbc. open source karoo bridge is good, commercial options too if you expect a high volume of calls
